Scene 1: Barangay Hall – Morning
(Barangay Meeting on Community Clean-Up)
Welcome to Barangay Popotn. This baranggay is a bit scattery and dusty, but
the people here work to keep their community clean, undertaking a thorough
cleaning every week. One day, during a community gathering, while
everyone waited for instructions, their Barangay Chairman was absent.
(Aling Rosa and Kuya Pedro are already there, holding cleaning tools while some
residents chat and wait.)
Aling Rosa: (checking her watch) Ay naku, tignan mo nga naman, alas-diyes na!
Sabi ni Kapitan 9 AM tayo magsisimula, pero wala pa rin siya! buti nalang
nakapaghanda ako ng almusal ng mga anak ko pati yung babaunin nila sa
eskwelahan, kung hindi eh baka haponan na sila maka kain!
Kuya Pedro: (shaking his head, handing out cleaning tools) Hay, hindi na bago ‘yan,
Aling Rosa. Pero hindi tayo dapat maghintay lang. Simulan na natin kahit wala pa siya!
Aling Rosa: Tama ka, Kuya Pedro. Kung gusto natin ng malinis na barangay, tayo na
ang kumilos! wag na tayong mag hintay at magaksaya ng oras!
(They start cleaning, picking up trash, sweeping, and segregating waste. Some
residents follow their lead, but others hesitate, waiting for official instructions.)
Scene 2: The Chairman Arrives Late
(After another 30 minutes, Mang Isko finally arrives, holding a cup of coffee and looking
relaxed.)
Mang Isko: (yawning, stretching) Pasensya na kayo, mga kabarangay! Naipit ako sa
trapik… at saka, alam niyo naman, Filipino Time!
Aling Rosa: (stops sweeping and looks at him) Filipino Time? Eh, Kapitan, kayo dapat
ang unang nandito! ano pa't naging pinuno ka kung hindi ka namumuno? mas
nauna pa kami saiyo dito, at nag hintay pa!
Kuya Pedro: Tama! Kung gusto natin ng disiplina sa barangay, dapat kayo mismo ang
magpakita ng magandang halimbawa.
Mang Isko: (laughs nervously) O siya, o siya… next time, mas maaga na ako. Ano na
bang nagawa niyo?
(The residents shake their heads, disappointed, but continue working while Mang Isko
just watches.)
Scene 3: Colonial Mentality Appears
(Tina, a well-dressed young professional, walks by, sipping expensive imported coffee
and scrolling on her phone. She wrinkles her nose at the people cleaning up.)
Tina: (mocking tone) Hala, ano ba ‘yan? Ang init-init tapos maglilinis pa kayo ng
basura?
Aling Rosa: Tina, barangay natin ito. Kung hindi tayo tutulong, eh sino? tsaka wag
ka nalang magreklamo, tulongan mo nalang kaya kami nang matapos na ito
agad?
Tina: (rolling her eyes) Hindi ba dapat trabaho ‘yan ng gobyerno? Mas mabuti pang
nasa café ako, enjoying my caramel macchiato kaysa makisali diyan sa dumi!
Kuya Pedro: (sighs) Tina, hindi masama ang gusto mo ng imported na bagay, pero
mas dapat nating mahalin ang sarili nating komunidad.
Mang Isko: (nodding) Tama si Pedro. Dapat ipakita natin ang pagmamalasakit sa
barangay, hindi lang puro reklamo.
(Tina scoffs and walks away, uninterested in helping.)
Scene 4: Hard Work and Unity Overcome Negativity
(Aling Rosa and Kuya Pedro continue working hard despite the challenges. They
encourage other residents to join in. Slowly, more people pick up brooms and help
clean.)
Kuya Pedro: (smiling) Kita niyo? Kapag nagtutulungan tayo, mas mabilis natin
matatapos!
Aling Rosa: Oo nga! Ang sipag natin! akalain mo yun? kaya pala nating malinis
ang buong baranggay!
(Even Mang Isko feels guilty and finally picks up a broom to help.)
Mang Isko: (sweeping) Alam niyo, may punto kayo. Dapat hindi ako nagpa-late. Simula
ngayon, magiging mas disiplinado na ako!
Aling Rosa: Mang pedro mauna na ako ha? susunduin ko pa kasi yung mga
anak ko
(The community cheers, and the clean-up drive becomes a success!)

The second character is Mang Pedro, he is Tricycle Driver who exemplifies

both Aling Rosa and Tina, trying to bridge the gap between the hardworking
community members and those who are indifferent. His character highlights

The third character is Mang Isko, he is the Barangay Chairman who
symbolizes Lack of Discipline. He symbolizes the negative aspect of "Filipino
Time," which often refers to the cultural tendency to be late. His late arrival
to the clean-up drive reflects a lack of discipline and accountability, traits
that can hinder progress in community activities. As a leader, his failure to
set a good example can demotivate the community. This aspect of his
character serves as a critique of leadership styles that do not prioritize
responsibility and discipline, which are crucial for effective governance.
And now the Last one is Tina, she is the a young maarti Professional, she
represents colonial mentality. A weakness observed in some Filipinos who
favor foreign goods and lifestyles over their own culture. Her disdain for the
community clean-up and preference for an imported coffee experience
illustrates a disconnect from local values and responsibilities. This attitude
reflects a broader issue in society where some individuals prioritize external
influences over their own heritage. Her character serves as a reminder of the
importance of embracing and valuing one’s own culture and community.
The story we presented encapsulates the dual nature of Filipino
characteristics, showcasing both strengths and weaknesses through its
characters. Aling Rosa and Kuya Pedro embody the positive traits of hard
work, family orientation, and community spirit, while Mang Isko and Tina
