2. State six functions of an operating system

: • Provides a user interface.

• Provides security for the computer.

3. Differentiate between system software and application software.


Answer: System software manages hardware and starts at boot (e.g. Windows). Application
software performs user tasks (e.g. Microsoft Word).

4. Define utility software.


Answer: Utility software is software designed to maintain, protect and improve computer
performance.

5. State four examples of utility software.


Answer: Antivirus, Disk Cleanup, Backuap Utility, File Compression Utility.

6. Functions of utilities.
