1. Communication and Its Relevance to Human Interaction

Communication can be defined as the act of passing information, ideas, thought or


feelings from one person to another in order to create understanding.

Communication is very important to human interaction because it help people to


relate with each other. Through communication, people are able to share ideas,
express their feelings and understand one another better. It also help in building
relationship, learning in schools and carrying out daily activities in the society.
Without communication, there will be misunderstanding and lack of cooperation
among people.

2. Stages Involved in the Process of Communication

The process of communication involve the following stages:

i. Sender
The sender is the person who start the communication.
Example: A teacher giving a lesson to students.

ii. Message
The message is the information the sender want to pass across.
Example: The topic that is being taught in class.

iii. Encoding
Encoding is the way the sender put the message into words or signs.
Example: The teacher explaining the topic using English language.

iv. Channel
The channel is the means through which the message is sent.
Example: Speaking in the classroom or writing on the chalkboard.

v. Receiver
The receiver is the person who receive the message.
Example: The students listening to the teacher.
vi. Decoding
Decoding is the process of understanding the message sent.
Example: Students listening and trying to understand the lesson.

vii. Feedback
Feedback is the response given by the receiver to the sender.
Example: Students answering question or asking question.

viii. Noise
Noise is anything that disturb communication.
Example: Noise from outside the classroom or poor attention.
