Statement of Purpose

Introduction

My name is Charankanwal Singh Saini, an Indian citizen currently

residing in Surrey, British Columbia. I respectfully submit this Statement of
Purpose in support of my application for a Canadian Study Permit to
pursue the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser
University (SFU) commencing in September 2026. My admission has
been officially confirmed by Simon Fraser University, and I have also
received the required Provincial Attestation Letter issued by the Province
of British Columbia.

Education has always been the highest priority for me and my family. My
parents have consistently encouraged me to pursue quality education that
would prepare me for a meaningful and rewarding career. Having
completed my secondary education in British Columbia, I have
experienced first-hand the Canadian education system, which emphasizes
analytical thinking, research, collaboration, and practical learning. This
experience has strengthened my desire to continue my undergraduate
education in Canada and further develop my academic knowledge in the
field of health sciences.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University

represents the natural continuation of my educational journey. It will
provide me with the scientific foundation, research experience, and
interdisciplinary knowledge necessary to build a successful professional
career within the healthcare sector.

Educational Background

My educational journey has been both diverse and enriching. I was born in
Ajman, United Arab Emirates, and completed my early schooling in India
before relocating to Canada during my high school years. This
international educational experience has enabled me to adapt to different
learning environments while developing resilience, independence, and
strong communication skills.

Prior to moving to Canada, I attended The Bishop's Co-Ed School,

Pune, where I completed my studies until Grade 9. The school provided
me with a solid academic foundation, particularly in science and
mathematics, while strengthening my English language proficiency and
critical thinking abilities. During this period, I developed an interest in
biology and human health, subjects that sparked my curiosity about how
scientific knowledge can improve people's quality of life.
In July 2023, I relocated to British Columbia and continued my secondary
education at École Panorama Ridge Secondary School in Surrey.
Transitioning into the Canadian education system was both challenging
and rewarding. I adapted to a curriculum that emphasized independent
learning, research, presentations, teamwork, and problem-solving. These
experiences significantly improved my academic maturity and prepared
me for university studies. I successfully completed Grade 12 in May 2026,
demonstrating my ability to meet Canadian academic standards and
successfully integrate into the educational environment.

Completing my high school education in Canada has given me a clear

understanding of the expectations of Canadian universities and has
prepared me academically and personally for undergraduate education.
Throughout my high school education in British Columbia, I consistently
maintained a GPA between 3.5 and 3.7 while balancing academics with
extracurricular activities and community involvement. I actively
participated in school life as a member of the Grad Council, where I
collaborated with fellow students to help organize events and represent
the graduating class. These experiences strengthened my leadership,
teamwork, and organizational skills while teaching me the importance of
responsibility and effective communication.

Why Health Sciences?

Choosing Health Sciences is the result of careful planning rather than a

spontaneous decision. Throughout high school, I found myself particularly
interested in biology, human anatomy, public health, and scientific
research. I became increasingly fascinated by how scientific discoveries,
healthcare policies, and medical research contribute to improving the
health and wellbeing of communities. My interest in healthcare has also
been reinforced through my volunteer experiences with Surrey Crime
Prevention and KidsPlay. These opportunities allowed me to interact with
people from diverse backgrounds, contribute to community initiatives, and
develop a greater appreciation for the importance of health, safety, and
community wellbeing. These experiences further motivated me to pursue
a career where I can make a meaningful contribution to people's lives
through healthcare.

The healthcare industry is continuously evolving with advancements in

biomedical sciences, disease prevention, population health, and
healthcare technology. I believe that professionals with strong
interdisciplinary knowledge are becoming increasingly valuable in
addressing modern healthcare challenges.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences provides exactly the type of
education I have been seeking. The curriculum combines biological
sciences, epidemiology, public health, health policy, research
methodologies, and data analysis, allowing students to develop both
scientific knowledge and analytical skills. Rather than focusing on a single
discipline, the program offers a broader understanding of healthcare
systems and prepares graduates for a variety of professional pathways.

I am particularly attracted to the research-oriented nature of the program

because I enjoy learning through investigation, evidence-based analysis,
and practical application. I believe this degree will provide me with the
academic foundation necessary for future professional growth while
allowing me to explore different areas within the healthcare sector before
deciding on a specialized career path.

Why Simon Fraser University?

After carefully researching several Canadian universities, Simon Fraser

University emerged as the institution that best aligns with my academic
goals and learning preferences.

Simon Fraser University is internationally recognized for its academic

excellence, innovative research, interdisciplinary education, and strong
reputation in health sciences. The Faculty of Health Sciences offers one of
Canada's most respected undergraduate health science programs,
emphasizing population health, biomedical sciences, public health policy,
global health, and data-driven decision making.

Another significant factor that influenced my decision to choose Simon

Fraser University is its well-established co-operative education program.
The opportunity to gain hands-on work experience while completing my
degree will allow me to apply classroom knowledge in professional
settings, develop practical skills, and better prepare for future studies and
a career in the healthcare sector. I believe the combination of academic
learning and practical experience offered through SFU's co-op program
makes it an ideal environment for my educational and professional
development.

What particularly attracted me to SFU is its commitment to combining

classroom learning with research opportunities and practical experience.
Students are encouraged to participate in faculty research projects,
community initiatives, and collaborative learning experiences that
strengthen both theoretical understanding and practical skills.

The university's modern facilities, accomplished faculty members,

research centres, and industry connections will provide an environment
where I can develop academically while preparing for future professional
opportunities.

Since I have already completed my secondary education in British

Columbia, I am familiar with the educational culture, academic
expectations, and community. Continuing my education within the same
province will allow me to focus entirely on my studies while benefiting
from an environment in which I have already successfully adapted.

Financial Preparedness

My family has made comprehensive financial arrangements to

support my education at Simon Fraser University. We have carefully
planned for the financial commitment associated with my four-year
undergraduate program and possess sufficient funds to cover
my tuition fees, living expenses, health insurance, books,
transportation, and other incidental costs throughout my studies. As
evidence of our commitment, the required CAD 5,000 admission
deposit has already been paid to Simon Fraser University. In
addition, both of my parents maintain substantial savings and
investments in Canada, while my father has stable
employment that provides ongoing financial support. Collectively,
our available financial resources significantly exceed the estimated
cost of my education, ensuring that I will be able to focus entirely on
my academic studies without financial constraints.

profession.

I am committed to making the most of every academic opportunity

available to me, including research, community engagement, internships,
and collaborative projects that will contribute to both my personal and
professional development.

Beyond academics, I intend to continue contributing to the university

community by participating in extracurricular activities, volunteering, and
maintaining an active lifestyle. During high school, I represented my
school on the badminton team in both Grade 11 and Grade 12. In
recognition of my dedication and sportsmanship, I received the
Commitment Award and the Quiet Leadership and Commitment Award in
two consecutive years. These experiences taught me discipline,
