2. The heart is a muscular organ about the size of a fist, located just behind and slightly 1
left of the breastbone. The heart pumps blood through the network of arteries and
veins called the cardiovascular system.
The given diagram shows a section of heart and some blood vessels. Identify the
function of the parts marked as ‘c’ and ‘d ’.
(a) ‘c’carries oxygenated blood to right atrium ‘d’ carries de-oxygenated blood to
lungs
(b) ‘c’carries de-oxygenated blood to right atrium ‘d’ carries oxygenated blood to
lungs

(c ) ‘c’carries de-oxygenated blood to right atrium ‘d’ carries de-oxygenated blood to
lungs
(d) ‘c’carries oxygenated blood to right atrium ‘d’ carries oxygenated blood to lungs
3. Zinc granules on treating with a substance X, form a salt sodium zincate along with 1
the evolution of a gas Y which burns with a pop sound when brought near a burning
candle. Identify the substance X and gas evolved Y.
4. A child draws the diagram of a nephron but forgets to label it. Select the markings 1
which show where filtration and selective reabsorption takes place.
(a) A and B (b) B and C
(c) C and X (d) B and X
5 A. Wave length and velocity
6 (b) The height of the image should be taken as positive for both virtual and real image. 1
In the following questions (7 and 8), the assertion and reason have been put forward.
Read the statements carefully and choose the appropriate answer from the given
options:
(a) Both the Assertion and the Reason are correct and the Reason is the correct
explanation of the Assertion.
(b) The Assertion and the Reason are correct but the Reason is not the correct
2
explanation of the Assertion.
(c) Assertion is true but the Reason is false.
(d) The statement of the Assertion is false but the Reason is true.
7 Assertion (A): When copper oxide is added to dilute hydrochloric acid, the colour of 1
the solution becomes blue-green.
Reason (R): Copper (II) chloride is formed.
8 (c) Assertion is true but the Reason is false. 1
9 Arjun decided to investigate the effect of water and air on some metallic objects 2
under identical experimental conditions. He kept a pair of silver earrings, an iron
nail, a copper vessel and an aluminium utensil outside for a few days. He observed
that a pair of silver earrings turns black, iron nail gets a brown flaky coating, the
copper vessel gets a coating of green layer and the aluminium utensil loses its lustre
and its surface becomes dull.
(a) Name and define the phenomena involved in the given case.
(b) Corrosion of iron is a serious problem. Justify.
10 (a) What is double circulation of blood? 2
(b) In mammals and birds, it is necessary to separate oxygenated and de-oxygenated
blood. Why?
11 (a) Refractive index of diamond = 2.4 3
(b) P = P1+P2 = 1D
f= 100/P = 100cm
12 1/v – 1/u = 1/f 3
V = -60 cm
m= v/u = -60/(-15) = 4
image virtual, erect, enlarged, same side of object.
13 Nidhi sets up the following apparatus. Which of the following test/s is/are given by 3
the gas 'G' produced in this set up?
3
(a) Identify the gas ‘G’ produced.
(b) How will you test the presence of this gas?
(c ) Write a balanced chemical equation for the reaction taking place in the above
activity.
14 The excretory system of human beings includes a pair of kidneys, a pair of ureters, a 4
urinary bladder and a urethra. Kidneys are located in the abdomen, one on either
side of the backbone. Urine produced in the kidneys passes through the ureters into
the urinary bladder where it is stored until it is released through the urethra.
(i) What is the purpose of making urine?
(ii) How is the amount of urine produced regulated?
(iii) Name the substances reabsorbed in the kidney tubules.(any two)
(iv) Compare the functioning of alveoli in the lungs and nephrons in the kidneys with
respect to their structure and functioning.(any two points)
