HUMANITIES SCRIPT-
Good morning everyone. My name is Riana Bhatia, and today I'm going to present on the topic
'Identity and Culture.
Let's begin with identity. Identity is the unique combination of qualities, beliefs, personality, and
experiences that make each person different. It helps us understand who we are and how we fit
into society.
There are several factors that shape our identity. First are our values and beliefs, which guide our
decisions and actions. Second are our personal experiences, such as our achievements, challenges,
and hobbies. Lastly, our passions and interests also play an important role because they help us
express ourselves and discover what we enjoy." There are two main types of identity: self-identity
and social identity.
Self-identity is how we see ourselves. It includes our personality, values, interests, and life
experiences that make us unique.
Social identity is based on the groups we belong to, such as our nationality, culture, religion,
school, or community. It helps us feel connected to others.
Self-esteem is how we value and feel about ourselves. It affects our confidence, decisions, and
relationships with others.
People with healthy self-esteem are more likely to take on challenges, recover from failures, and
believe in their abilities. On the other hand, low self-esteem can lead to stress, anxiety, and a lack
of confidence.
Negative thinking also lowers self-esteem. If we constantly focus on our mistakes and ignore our
achievements, we begin to doubt ourselves. That's why having positive thoughts and believing in
ourselves is very important."
Values, morals, and principles guide the way we live our lives.
Values are the beliefs that are important to us. Morals help us understand what is right and wrong.
Principles are the rules we follow based on our values and morals.
Together, they influence our behaviour and the choices we make every day.
A moral code is a set of rules or beliefs that helps a person decide what is right and what is
wrong."Values are also important in businesses and society. In businesses, values guide decision-
making, teamwork, leadership, and the way employees treat customers. They help create a
positive work culture.
In society, values are reflected through different social norms.
Folkways are everyday customs, like saying 'thank you' or standing in a queue.
Mores are stronger rules connected to morality, such as being honest or respecting others.
Taboos are behaviours that society strongly rejects because they are considered unacceptable."
Motivation is the force that encourages us to achieve our goals and keep moving forward.
We are also motivated to help others because humans naturally feel empathy and enjoy making a
positive difference. Helping people also makes us feel happy because our brain releases chemicals
like dopamine and oxytocin, which improve our mood.
Ethics are the moral principles that help us decide what is right and wrong.
There are two main ethical approaches.
Duty-based ethics says an action is right if it follows moral rules, regardless of the result.
Consequentialism says an action is right if it produces good outcomes.
Applied ethics uses these ideas to solve real-life problems. Development ethics looks at fairness in
social and economic progress, while environmental ethics focuses on protecting nature and our
responsibility towards the environment."
