CASE STUDY

1)How did the emergence of mobile computing and the grid computing impact
the growth of cloud computing, and what new opportunities did it create?

Scenario:
A small e-commerce company is experiencing rapid growth and is considering
moving their website to the cloud to handle the increased traffic. The website
currently runs on a single dedicated server, and the company's IT team is not
experienced in cloud computing.

Question: What are the steps that the company should take to migrate their
website to the cloud, and what deployment model should they choose?

Which cloud computing deployment model (public, private, hybrid, or

community) would be most appropriate for hosting the online shopping
platform, and why? Justify your answer with an example.

The emergence of mobile computing and grid computing played a significant role
in the growth of cloud [Link] computing enabled users to access data
and applications from anywhere, anytime using mobile devices such as smartphones
and tablets.
Grid computing, on the other hand, allowed organizations to share computing
resources across multiple locations. These developments created a need for a new
computing model that could provide on-demand access to shared computing
resources over the internet, which led to the emergence of cloud computing
efficiency. With cloud computing, businesses can easily scale their computing
resources up or down to meet changing demand, pay only for the resources they
use, and avoid the costs and complexities of maintaining their own infrastructure.

To migrate their website to the cloud, the e-commerce company should take the
following steps:
Evaluate their current infrastructure and identify the requirements for moving to the
[Link] a cloud provider based on their needs and budget.

There are several cloud providers available in the market, such as Amazon Web
Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform for businesses that require
complete control over their infrastructure and need to meet specific regulatory or
compliance requirements.
A hybrid cloud is a combination of public and private cloudenvironments. It is best
suited for businesses that need to balance the benefits of public and private clouds
and require flexibility to move workloads between them.

A community cloud is a computing environment that is shared by a group of

organizations with similar requirements and interests. It is best suited for businesses
that need to collaborate closely with other organizations and require a
shared infrastructure.

In the case of the e-commerce company, a public cloud deployment model would
be most appropriate for hosting their online shopping platform. This is because a
public cloud can provide the scalability and cost-efficiency that the company
needs to handle increased traffic, without the need to maintain their own
infrastructure. For example, the company could use Amazon Web Services (AWS)
to host their website, which offers a wide range of scalable and cost-effective cloud
services, such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and
Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)

2)What were the early technologies that contributed to the development of

cloud computing, and how did they shape the industry?
Scenario : Suppose you are a software development manager at a company
that specializes in developing mobile applications. Your team is currently
working on a new mobile application, and you need to decide whether to use a
public or private cloud for hosting the application. The application will have a
large user base, and you need to ensure that it can handle high traffic volumes.
The application will also need to
store sensitive user data, so security is a top priority.
Additionally, the company has a limited budget, and cost- effectiveness is a
critical factor in your decision.
Based on this scenario, answer the following questions: What are the
advantages and disadvantages of using a public cloud for hosting the
application? What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a private
cloud for hosting the application?

Cloud computing has been a rapidly evolving field, with many technologies
contributing to its development. Some of the early technologies that contributed to
the development of cloud computing include virtualization, grid computing, and
utility computing.
Virtualization allowed multiple operating systems to run on a single physical
machine, increasing the utilization of computing resources. Grid computing allowed
organizations to share computing resources across multiple locations. Utility
computing provided computing resources as a service, allowing organizations to
pay for the computing resources they use, similar to how they pay for utilities such
as electricity.
These technologies helped to shape the industry by enabling the development of
cloud computing, which provides on- demand access to shared computing resources
over the internet.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Using a Public Cloud:

Advantages:
Scalability: Public clouds offer virtually unlimited scalability, allowing businesses to
quickly and easily scale their infrastructure to meet changing demand.
Cost-effectiveness: Public clouds can be very cost-effective since businesses only
pay for the resources they use.
Reduced Maintenance: Public cloud providers manage and maintain the
infrastructure, freeing businesses from the costs and complexities of managing their
own infrastructure.
Disadvantages:
Security: Public clouds can be less secure than private clouds, as they are shared by
multiple organizations.
Lack of control: Businesses have limited control over the infrastructure in a public
cloud, as it is managed by a third- party provider.
Performance: Public clouds can experience performance issues due to resource
contention or network congestion.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Using a Private Cloud:
Advantages:
Security: Private clouds offer greater security than public clouds, as they are
dedicated to a single organization.
Control: Businesses have complete control over the infrastructure in a private cloud,
allowing them to tailor it to their specific needs.
Performance: Private clouds can offer better performance than public clouds, as
they are not shared by multiple organizations.
Disadvantages:
Scalability: Private clouds can be less scalable than public clouds since they are
limited by the resources available in the organization's data center.
Cost: Private clouds can be more expensive than public clouds, as businesses must
purchase and maintain their own infrastructure.
Maintenance: Private clouds require more maintenance than public clouds since
businesses must manage and maintain their own infrastructure.
Based on the scenario, a private cloud deployment model would be more
appropriate for hosting the mobile application. This is because the application will
store sensitive user data, and security is a top priority. Additionally, the company
has a limited budget, and a private cloud may be more cost-effective
than a public cloud in the long run. However, the decision ultimately depends on
the specific needs and requirements of the application and the organization
