Marlowe and William Shakespeare
Introduction

Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare were two major playwrights of the
Elizabethan age. Both contributed greatly to English drama, but their style, themes, and
approach were quite different.

Similarities

Same Era: Both belonged to the Elizabethan period and wrote for the stage.

Use of Blank Verse: They used blank verse (unrhymed iambic pentameter) in their plays.

Tragic Themes: Both focused on tragedy, ambition, power, and human emotions.

Differences

1. Writing Style

Marlowe: His style is bold, powerful, and full of high emotion. He uses strong, heroic
language.

Shakespeare: His style is more natural, flexible, and rich in imagery and poetry.

2. Characters

Marlowe: His heroes are usually larger-than-life figures (like Dr. Faustus) who seek unlimited
