Vernier Caliper
A vernier scale, named after Pierre Vernier, is a
visual aid to take an accurate measurement
reading between two graduation markings on a
linear scale by using mechanical interpolation.
On the Vernier caliper, the main (stationary) scale
is divided in to millimeters. The Vernier
(moveable) scale is 9 mm long and consists of 10
divisions. Each division on the Vernier scale, then,
is 0.9 mm long, or 0.1 mm less than the main
scale divisions.
The least count of Vernier Caliper is 0.1 mm.
Micrometer
A micrometer, sometimes known as a micrometer
screw gauge, is a device incorporating a
calibrated screw widely used for accurate
measurement of components.
Micrometers use the screw to transform small
distances (that are too small to measure directly)
into large rotations of the screw that are big
enough to read from a scale.
The least count of Micrometer is 0.01 mm.
Vernier Bevel Protractor
Vernier bevel protractor is an angle measuring
micrometers used to layout or check an angle of
up to 5 minutes precision.
Its design consists of a fixed stock and an
adjustable blade with a graduated dial.
Graduations are made from 0 ° to 90 ° or 0 ° to
180 °.
The least count of Vernier Bevel Protractor is 5'.
Gear Teeth Measurement
Gear Tooth Measurement is designed to measure
in .001″or 0.02mm the thickness of gear teeth at
the pitch line (the chordal thickness of the teeth)
using the distance from the top of a tooth to the
chord. For the same purpose, it can also be used
for measuring hobs, from and thread tools , etc.
The thickness of a tooth at the pitch line is
measured by an adjustable tongue. Each of these
is adjusted independently by screws on the
graduated bars.
Least count of Gear Teeth Measurement is 0.01 mm.
Vernier Height Gauge
The Vernier height gauge has a vernier caliper,
equipped with a special base block, measuring
jaw, and other attachments which make the
instrument suitable for height measurements.
The upper and lower surfaces of the measuring
jaws are parallel to the base so that it can be
used for measurements over or under a surface.
Vernier Height Gauge has a least count of 0.02 mm.
Feeler Gauge
A feeler gauge is a hand-held tool used for
measuring gap widths between two objects that
are close together.
The feeler gauge tool itself consists of a variety of
small lengths of steel (known as blades) of
different thicknesses which have size
measurements marked along each piece.
Feeler gauges have the least count of 0.001 mm.
Screw Pitch Gauge
A thread gauge, also known as a screw gauge or
pitch gauge, is used to measure the pitch or lead
of a screw thread.
Thread pitch gauges are used as a reference tool
in determining the pitch of a thread that is on a
screw or in a tapped hole.
Wire Gauge
Wire gauge is a measurement of wire diameter.
This determines the amount of electric current
the wire can safely carry, as well as its electrical
resistance and weight.
It consist of plates of circular or oblong form
having notches of different widths around their
edges to receive wire and sheet metals of
different thicknesses.
Steel Rule
The steel rule is an easy and quickest means to
measure the linear dimensions of a component
with limited accuracy.
They may be ‘rigid’ or ‘flexible’ depending upon
the thickness and the quality of steel used in their
manufacturing.
These are available in different range from 150
mm to 1000 mm.
Least count of Steel Rule is 1 mm.
