Yen: Hello! How are you? Would you like to have a video chat with me in English? I’m free on Tuesday or
Thursday evenings after 6.
Cathay: Sure. Tuesday is okay for me, but I’m afraid I can’t make it on Thursday evenings.
Yen: Alright. I’ll use a new app on my phone to learn on my own on Thursdays.
Cathay: How long should we practise? I think we could speak in English for half an hour, and then you could teach
me Vietnamese for half an hour. Sounds good?
Yen: Brilliant. Let’s discuss some rules before we start this plan.
Cathay: Good idea. How would you like me to correct you? Should I point out every mistake or odd phrasing, or
only when your meaning gets completely lost?
Yen: Oh, as long as the message is understood, fluency is the priority.
Cathay: Great. Do you want me to explain things thoroughly?
Yen: Please focus on keeping the conversation flowing smoothly.
Cathay: So, please prepare some questions you’d like to be asked, and think about your answers in advance.
