Title of Assignment/Activity: NSTP Overview (NSTP Misconceptions)
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Individual Task
Question: What misconceptions did you have about NSTP before taking the course, and how has your understanding changed your
perspective as a community member?
Write one misconception you had before the NSTP orientation topics.
Reflect on how your understanding changed and how it affects your view of community responsibility.
=> Before taking the NSTP subject, I had some misconceptions about what it really was. I always thought NSTP was just about ROTC
because of my mom's stories from her high school days. She talked about how they were taught to assemble and properly handle guns. I
also believed it was a tough subject since my sister mentioned that many of her classmates often passed out during the activities, which
seemed intense and physically tiring.
But now that I’m currently taking NSTP, my perspective has changed quite a bit. I’ve learned that NSTP is not just about ROTC or
firearms training. It actually includes other components like Civic Welfare Training Service and Literacy Training Service, which focus
more on developing our skills and mindset to become responsible and active community members. These programs encourage students to
engage in meaningful community service, promote civic consciousness, and help address social issues such as drug addictions in
constructive ways.
This understanding has helped me realize that NSTP is about building a deeper connection with the community and preparing us to
contribute positively beyond just military related training. It’s about fostering empathy, leadership, and social responsibility, which are
essential qualities for every citizen. Now, I see my role as a community member clearly, it's not only about self-discipline but also about
service, cooperation, and making a difference in society.
