Easter

Esters are chemical compounds with the general formula RCOOR', derived from carboxylic acids and alcohols, known for their pleasant, fruity smells. They have intermediate boiling points due to polar bonds but lack hydrogen bonding capabilities, resulting in lower boiling points compared to carboxylic acids. Low molar mass esters can dissolve somewhat in water due to their ability to engage in hydrogen bonding with water molecules.

Easter

In organic chemistry, an ester is a type of chemical

compound. Esters have the general formula RCOOR'. The 'R' is a
carbon chain from a carboxylic acid. The 'R'' is a carbon chain
from an alcohol. Esters are known for their pleasant, fruity smells.

physical properties of Easter

Esters have polar bonds but do not engage in hydrogen bonding

and are therefore intermediate in boiling points between the
nonpolar alkanes and the alcohols, which engage in hydrogen
bonding. Ester molecules can engage in hydrogen bonding with
water, so esters of low molar mass are therefore somewhat
soluble in water

chemical properties of esters

Ester molecules are polar but have no hydrogen atom attached

directly to an oxygen atom. They are therefore incapable of
engaging in intermolecular hydrogen bonding with one another
and thus have considerably lower boiling points than their
isomeric carboxylic acids counterparts
