WHAT ARE THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF


MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY?

Module Summary
Media and information have been front and center during the past two decades, and with the speed at which the technologies are being developed, it is
necessary that the consumers of media be aware of media and its influence. In this module, the students will learn the nature of media and its evolution
through time, how information is categorized, and the codes used in media and information. The students will also learn how to understand these codes.
Through this module, the learners will develop a deeper appreciation for media and information, its history, and where it currently stands.

Approximate Time Needed: 4 hours per week for 20 weeks

At the end of the module, 90% of the learners should be able to develop all the following skills:

Main output: Students will create videos and short essays which will be shared through a media and information literacy blog.

Portfolio Task 3: A short documentary showcasing the information gathered and shared by a government agency, academic institution, or private
organization. The documentary will be shared via their media and information literacy blog.
Portfolio Task 4: A short video discussing the codes and conventions used in a popular print ad. This video will be shared via their media and
