Computer Engineering Master And Doctorate Programs
Computer engineering is one of the oldest and most comprehensive engineering branches that applies the
principles of mathematical science, mainly in the fields of algorithms, programming, software and
hardware. In the Department of Computer Engineering at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University;
• Artificial Intelligence,
• Machine Learning,
• Deep Learning,
• Data Mining,
• Image Processing,
• Computer Vision,
• Robotics And Unmanned Weather Tools,
• Natural Language Processing,
• Cyber Security,
• Internet of Things (IoT),
• Scientific Computing,
• Parallel Programming,
• Distributed Systems,
• Embedded Systems,
• Fuzzy Logic,
• Computer Graphics,
• Virtual Reality,
etc. many other research activities are carried out in many areas.
In Computer Engineering master's and PhD programs, it is aimed for those who want to specialize in these
fields;
• Increase their theoretical knowledge
• Gain practical skills with experimental methods
• Develop algorithm, analysis, and software skills
• Gain the ability to interpret the obtained theoretical, experimental, and numerical results.
Graduates of the following departments can apply to the programs:
• Computer Engineering
• Electronics Engineering
• Electrical -Electronics Engineering
• Software Engineering
Conditionally Accepted Departments:
• Management Information Systems Engineering
• Mathematics Engineering
• Department of Mathematics
• Department of Statistics
The language of instruction for both programs (Master's and PhD) is 100% English. All students who
want to do postgraduate education in our department must document their English proficiency. The
duration of the master's program is 2 years. The first year is designed for taking courses and the last year
for thesis work. If needed, an additional 1 year can be granted. The student must complete the master's
degree in a maximum of 3 years. The duration of the doctorate program is 4 years. The first year is
designed for taking courses and the last three years for thesis work. If needed, an additional 2 years can
be granted. The student must complete the doctorate in a maximum of 6 years.
Application Conditions
Official application conditions are announced on the Institute of Science website before the application
period. The conditions below are for informational purposes only :
• Required Undergraduate GPA 2.4/4.0
• Required Master's GPA 2.75/4.0
• Required ALES (Last 5 Years) Score for Master's Program 70
• Required ALES (Last 5 Years) Score for Doctorate Program 75
• Required Foreign Language (KPDS/ÜDS/YDS/other equivalent exams from the last 5 years)
Score for Master's Program 50
• Required Foreign Language (KPDS/ÜDS/YDS/other equivalent exams from the last 5 years)
Score for Doctorate Program 55
• Candidates who do not have the exams that will exempt them from the foreign language
preparatory class in programs where the language of instruction is English must take the Foreign
Language Exemption Exam conducted by our university
In order to apply to the programs, candidates must follow the announcement to be announced at
[Link]/fbe. Student admissions are usually made once a year for the Fall semester, and rarely twice
a year for both the Fall and Spring semesters.
Taking Courses
Students of both programs (Master's and PhD) must take 7 courses and FBE900 Research
Methods and Ethics in order to graduate. PhD students who have taken and passed this course
during their master's degree must submit a petition to the Department Head to be exempt from this
course.
Advanced Engineering Mathematics can be taken as an elective in the Master's program, but it
is mandatory in the PhD program. If Advanced Engineering Mathematics I is taken, this course
will be counted as one of the 7 courses. Students who are exempt from this course must take 7
courses.
Students of both programs must also take the Seminar course in the last semester they will
complete their courses. Master's students must also submit their Master's Thesis Proposal to the
Institute by the date determined by our Institute in the semester after they complete their courses.
Students of both programs must take the Special Studies course every semester, in addition to
this course, they must also take the MASTER's THESIS course or the PhD DISSERTATION
course when they start their thesis studies until they graduate.
Students must decide on the courses they will take with their advisors and register for courses by
logging in to [Link] within the periods specified in the academic calendar.
