Title: The Case of the Vanishing Homework
Characters:
Arya – a nervous but creative student
Sam – Arya’s amused friend
Mr. Mehta – the teacher, serious but slightly suspicious
Setting: Classroom, Monday morning
[Arya walks into the classroom, clutching her empty bag. Sam notices and raises an
eyebrow.]
Sam: Hey Arya… where’s your homework?
Arya: (gulping) Uh… it’s… gone. Vanished. Completely.
Sam: (grinning) Vanished? Like magic?
Arya: (whispering) Not magic… more like… mysterious forces of the universe.
[Mr. Mehta approaches, looking curious.]
Mr. Mehta: Arya, I hope you have a reasonable explanation for why your homework isn’t on
my desk.
Arya: (nervously) Yes… yes! Well… first, my dog ate it.
Sam: (laughing) Your dog can read now?
Arya: (quickly) No, no… he just chewed it because he… sensed the equations were too hard!
[Mr. Mehta raises an eyebrow, trying not to smile.]
Mr. Mehta: Hmm. Anything else?
Arya: (thinking fast) Then… then a gust of wind blew it out the window… and it… um…
landed on the neighbour’s trampoline!
Sam: (holding back laughter) I’d like to see that!
[Arya looks around, flustered. She shrugs.]
Arya: And… and maybe… my little brother used it to make a paper airplane. It flew out the
door.
[The classroom erupts in quiet chuckles. Mr. Mehta sighs and shakes his head.]
Mr. Mehta: Arya… next time, maybe try keeping your homework on your desk, not in a
fantasy adventure.
Arya: (smiling sheepishly) Yes, sir. Lesson learned.
Sam: (grinning) That was a performance worthy of an Oscar!
[Arya and Sam laugh quietly as the class settles down. The “vanishing homework”
remains a mystery.]
