OSI Model Interview Notes

The OSI Model is a 7-layer reference model that standardizes network communication to simplify troubleshooting. Each layer has specific functions, such as the Application Layer (Layer 7) providing user interfaces, the Transport Layer (Layer 4) ensuring reliable communication, and the Network Layer (Layer 3) handling IP addressing and routing. Key differences between OSI and TCP/IP models include OSI being a theoretical framework while TCP/IP is a practical implementation with 4 layers.

OSI Model - Interview Notes

Definition:
OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) ek reference model hai jo network communication ko 7 layers
me divide karta hai. Iska purpose networking ko standardize karna aur troubleshooting ko easy
banana hai.

OSI Layers and Functions

Layer 7 - Application: User aur network ke beech interface provide karti hai. (HTTP, HTTPS, FTP,
DNS)
Layer 6 - Presentation: Data ko encrypt, decrypt, compress aur format karti hai.
Layer 5 - Session: Communication session establish, maintain aur terminate karti hai.
Layer 4 - Transport: Reliable communication, packet sequencing aur error checking karti hai. (TCP,
UDP)
Layer 3 - Network: IP Addressing aur routing handle karti hai. (Router)
Layer 2 - Data Link: MAC Address ke basis par local delivery karti hai. (Switch)
Layer 1 - Physical: Actual signals transmit karti hai. (Cable, Hub, Fiber)
