Note: ASCE 7-22 now uses reliability-targeted snow loads rather than the 50-year hazard-based loads from previous editions.
This change means that for LRFD design, the snow load is applied with a factor of 1.0 instead of 1.6, and for ASD design, the
corresponding snow load factor is now 0.7 instead of 1.0. Be sure to use the updated ASCE 7-22 values to achieve uniform
reliability in your design calculations.

Note The California Building Code requirements can have significant variation depending upon which government department
governs the building being designed. The current [Link] implementation is based upon compliance with HCD-1 (Dept. of
Housing and Community Development - for typical residential housing). The engineer must verify that any additional
requirements are met if any other department or grade governs, such as OSHPD, DSA, or HCD-1AC.

Assumptions
1. Overturning is fully prevented by the restraint (eg floor diaphragm), no overturning checks are performed.
2. Axial loads on the wall are not considered.
3. No shear key is considered.
4. The backfill is flat, with no slope.
5. Only live load surcharge, the wall self-weight and soil loads are currently considered.
6. Backfill soil material is granular only.
7. Concrete detailing needs to be checked separately.
8. This calculator does not consider effects of expansive soils.
9. Upwards soil pressure on heel is conservatively neglected for strength design.
10. Rebar is continuous over the entire height of the wall.

o m
11. The footing ends never lift off the ground, consequently no top bars are considered in the design of the footing.

.c
12. Concentrated loads are being considered in the middle of the stem.
13. Calculated out-of-plane deflection due to service loads, Δs, including PΔ effects, does not exceed ℓc/150.
