H. ASSERTION AND REASON:

In the following questions two statements are given one labelled Assertion (A) and the other labelled
Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the choices (a), (b), (c) and (d) as given
below:
(a) Both (A) and (R) are true, and (R) is the correct explanation of the (A).
(b) Both (A) and (R) are true, but (R) is not the correct explanation of the (A).
(c) (A) is true, but (R) is false.
(d) (A) is false, but (R) is true.
1. Assertion: Insectivorous plants eat insects. Reason: Insectivorous plants cannot synthesise their
own food. Ans: [ ___ ]

2. Assertion: All plants are autotrophs. Reason: Green plants can perform photosynthesis. Ans: [ ___ ]

3. Assertion: Rhizobium bacteria and leguminous plants exhibit symbiotic relationship. Reason: They
mutually benefit each other. Reason: Ans: [ ___ ]

Q.4 CASE BASED QUESTIONS: Read the paragraph given below and answer the questions that follow:
Photosynthesis is an autotrophic mode of nutrition by plants and some bacteria. Photosynthesis is the
physio-chemical process by which plants can convert light energy into chemical energy, in the form of
carbohydrate from simple inorganic substances like atmospheric carbon dioxide and [Link]
requires carbon dioxide, sunlight, water and chlorophyll as its basic raw materials. Leaves are considered to
be the sites of photosynthesis. Hence, they are called as food factories of the plant. Leaves possess small
pores called stomata on both their surfaces. Stomata are the structures which help in the exchange of
gases. Opening and closing of the stomata are brought about by the guard cells present in them. Leaves
are rich in plastids, Green colored plastids are chloroplasts rich in chlorophyll pigment. Chlorophyll is
responsible for trapping the energy from sunlight.
(a) The food making process in plants is called as (1) glycolysis (ii) photosynthesis (iii) photolysis (iv)
chemosynthesis
(b) Tick the raw materials required for photosynthesis. i) CO,, water ii) Nitrogen, water iii) CO., Oxygen,
water iv) Oxygen, water, chlorophyll
(c) What is the ultimate source of energy for all living organisms? i) Water energy ii) Wind energy iii) Solar
energy iv) Chemical energy
(d) Name the green pigment present in the leaves. I) Haemoglobin ii) Globulin iii) Albumin iv) Chlorophyll
