1. A resistance and an inductance are connected in series across a voltage
v = 282 sin 314t. An expression of current is found out to be
i= 4 sin (314t-45°). Find the values of resistance, inductance and power factor.
2. An ac series circuit has R = 15Ω; L = 0.1H and C = 50µF and is connected across 230V,
50 Hz sinusoidal supply. Determine impedance, current, power factor and power
consumed by the circuit and maximum current of the circuit.
3. A coil has a resistance of 10 Ω and draws a current of 5 A when connected across a 100
V, 50 Hz source. Determine the inductance of the coil.

8. A parallel circuit consists of two branches of which one consists of a noninductive
resistor of 15Ω in series with an inductor of 0.05H, the other consists of a non-inductive
resistance of 20Ω in series with a capacitor of 100μF capacitance. The circuit is
connected across a 212V, 50Hz supply. Determine (i) the current in each branch, (ii) the
total current, (iii) overall power factor, (iv) the total impedance of the circuit.
9. A 50µF capacitor is connected in series with a 100 Ω resistor and the combination is
supplied from a single phase ac source of value 230 V, 50 Hz.. Calculate (i) impedance,
(ii) current, (iii) power consumption in the circuit, (iv) the value of suitable inductor to be
connected in series with a combination so as to maintain unity power factor.
10. A choke coil has a resistance of 2 Ω and an inductance of 5 H. A capacitor C is connected
in series with the choke coil and the combination is fed from a 230 V, 50 Hz source.
What value must C have in order that the voltage across the choke coil shall be 250 V?
11. Two coils having impedances of Z₁ = (12 + j6) Ω and Z₂ = (9 + j7) Ω are connected in
parallel across a voltage source of 220V. Evaluate (i) the current flowing through each
coil, (ii) the total current, (iii) the overall power factor and (iv) the total active power and

circuit is connected across a 25V, 100 kHz supply. Determine (i) the current in each
branch, (ii) the total current, (iii) overall power factor, (iv) the total impedance of the
circuit.
28. A choke coil is connected in series with a 20µF capacitor. With a constant supply voltage
of 200V the circuit takes its maximum current of 50A at 50Hz frequency. Calculate (i)
the resistance and inductance of the choke coil; (ii) the voltage across the capacitor.

30. A 320 V, 50 Hz voltage applied to a coil of L = 0.5 H and R = 200 Ω in series with a
capacitor C. What value must C have in order that the total voltage across the coil shall

31. Derive the expression of resonance frequency in a series RLC circuit. What is the power
factor of a series resonating circuit? Draw the phasor diagram of a series RLC circuit at
resonance.
32. Two coils having impedance of Z₁= (10+j5) Ω and Z₂= (8+j6) Ω are connected in
parallel across a voltage source of 200V. Evaluate (i) the current flowing through each
coil, (ii) the total current, (iii) the overall power factor and (iv) the total active power and
reactive power.
33. A coil has an inductance of 40mH and a resistance of 15Ω. It is connected across a
supply voltage v=100 sin 314t. Obtain a similar expression for the supply current.
