Introduction to Operations Management

Presenter's Script (Chapter 1)

Based on the uploaded Chapter 1 book and the PowerPoint presentation.
Prepared for: Neil John M. Tulbanos

Slide 1 – Introduction
Good day everyone. Today I will discuss Introduction to Operations Management.
Before we begin, think about this question: How can Jollibee serve thousands of customers
every day while maintaining quality? The answer is Operations Management.
In simple terms, Operations Management is the process of planning, organizing, directing,
and controlling resources to transform inputs like people, materials, machines, and
technology into outputs such as products and services.
(Tagalog) Sa madaling salita, ito ang paraan ng negosyo upang gawing kapaki-pakinabang
na produkto o serbisyo ang kanilang resources.
Example: Flour, workers, and ovens become bread in a bakery.

Slide 2 – Definition of Operations Management

According to the chapter, Operations Management is responsible for efficiently managing
processes that transform inputs into outputs while focusing on efficiency, quality, and
customer satisfaction.
Efficiency means doing things right with minimum waste.
Effectiveness means achieving the desired goal.
Example: A hospital uses doctors, nurses, medicines, and equipment to transform unhealthy
patients into healthier ones.

Slide 3 – Nature of Operations Management

Operations Management is interdisciplinary. It combines Engineering, Economics, Statistics,
Psychology, and Management.
(Tagalog) Hindi lang isang subject ang ginagamit. Pinagsasama-sama ang iba't ibang
larangan upang maging mahusay ang operasyon.
It also applies to manufacturing and service industries. Toyota manufactures cars while
banks provide financial services.

Slide 4 – Historical Development

Operations Management evolved from the Industrial Revolution up to Industry 4.0.
Adam Smith introduced Division of Labor, meaning one large task is divided into smaller
specialized jobs.
Frederick Taylor introduced Scientific Management through Time and Motion Studies,
Piece-Rate Payment, and Functional Foremanship.
Later, the Hawthorne Studies proved that employees perform better when they feel valued
and motivated.
Slide 5 – Modern Operations Management
Modern Operations Management includes Total Quality Management, Lean Manufacturing,
Six Sigma, Just-in-Time Inventory, Supply Chain Management, Artificial Intelligence,
Internet of Things, Robotics, and Sustainability.
(Tagalog) Ang layunin ng lahat ng ito ay mapabilis ang trabaho, mabawasan ang gastos,
mapataas ang kalidad, at mapasaya ang customer.

Slide 6 – Importance
Operations Management is important because it reduces waste, lowers costs, improves
quality, increases productivity, and helps organizations gain competitive advantage.
Without good operations management, businesses may experience delays, poor quality,
dissatisfied customers, and financial losses.

Presentation Tips
• Speak naturally instead of reading word-for-word.
• Explain difficult terms in English first, then in Tagalog.
• Give local examples such as Jollibee, Shopee, GCash, and hospitals.
• Ask your classmates simple questions to keep them engaged.

Note
This is the first script document based on the uploaded Chapter 1. The complete expanded
presenter handbook covering every slide in detail would be approximately 50–80 pages and
needs to be generated over multiple iterations because of response size limits.
