UI/UX DESIGNATHON – PROBLEM STATEMENTS

■ Theme 1: Digital Mindfulness for Students

Problem Statement: How might we design a light, positive digital companion that helps
students stay focused and manage distractions during short study sessions — without
feeling restrictive, punishing, or overwhelming?

Project Overview: Create a simple mobile or web interface that encourages mindful
focus. The experience could include calm reminders, short focus timers, or gentle prompts
for reflection. The goal is to help students feel in control of their attention and build focus
habits that feel rewarding, not forced.

Judgement Criteria:

• Usability & UX (30%) – Simple, clear, and frictionless interactions.

• Visual Design (25%) – Calm, minimal, and emotionally soothing visuals.

• Emotional Resonance (25%) – Promotes balance, focus, and self-compassion.

• Feasibility (20%) – Realistic concept that could easily fit into student life.

■ Theme 2: Sustainable Everyday Choices

Problem Statement: How can we make eco-friendly decisions — like conserving water,
avoiding plastic, or using public transport — feel rewarding, simple, and part of our daily
rhythm?

Project Overview: Design an intuitive interface (mobile, wearable, or web) that

encourages and rewards sustainable habits through small actions. The focus should be on
positive motivation, gentle tracking, and satisfaction from progress — not guilt or pressure.
The design should feel lively, friendly, and instantly understandable.

Judgement Criteria:

• Usability & UX (30%) – Quick, effortless, and engaging interaction flow.

• Visual Design (25%) – Fresh, green, and motivating aesthetic.

• Community Interaction (25%) – Enables small social challenges or sharing.

• Feasibility & Practicality (20%) – Realistic to adopt in daily routines.

■ Theme 3: Digital Kindness

Problem Statement: How might we create a digital experience that spreads positivity and
appreciation online — helping users express kindness easily and authentically?

Project Overview: Design a micro-interaction (app, widget, or feature) that lets people
share small acts of kindness — like thank-you notes, mood boosters, or compliments. The
experience should feel genuine, spontaneous, and emotionally uplifting, countering online
negativity with simplicity and warmth.

Judgement Criteria:

• Usability & UX (30%) – Extremely easy and inviting to use.

• Emotional Resonance (30%) – Feels heartfelt, uplifting, and human.

• Design Process (20%) – Shows empathy and thoughtful user understanding.

• Feasibility (20%) – Practical and adaptable to real digital platforms.
