Wave Power Analysis
Q1. A wave in water 100 m deep has a period of 10 s and a height of 2 m. Determine the wave
celerity, length, and steepness. What is the water particle speed at the wave crest?
Q2. In the previous example, when the wave has propagated in to a nearshore depth of 2.3 m.
Calculate the wave celerity and length.
Q3. Find a suitable wave theory for waves in (i) water depth of 160m, wave height = 30m, wave
period = 16 sec, (ii) water depth of 50m, wave height = 3m, wave period = 16 sec. Use the chart
from your lecture notes.
Q4. Calculate the wave length and group velocity of a regular wave with a wave period T = 7sec in
water depths of (i) 200m and (ii) 20m.
Q5. Calculate the maximum horizontal and vertical particles velocity in a regular wave with
H = 3m, T = 7sec, d = 20m at elevations z = 0 and z = - 3.5m. Also draw the velocity profiles
with time at elevations z = 0 and z = -3.5m.
