Reading Text (B1 Level):
Choosing Between City Life and Country Life
Many people believe that living in a big city is more exciting than living in the
countryside. However, not everyone agrees. Some people think that city life is
not as relaxing as country life. Cities are often crowded, noisy, and busy, while
villages are usually quieter and more peaceful.
For example, Anna grew up in a small village, but she now works in a large city.
She says that her new job is less stressful than her previous one because she has a
supportive manager. However, she also says that her apartment is not as
comfortable as the house where she grew up. It is smaller, and she doesn't have a
garden anymore.
Anna enjoys the city's restaurants and shopping centres, but she spends less time
outdoors than she did in the countryside. In her village, she used to go for long
walks every evening. Now, she is not as active as she was before because she has
a busy schedule.
Her friend David has had a different experience. He recently moved from the city
to the countryside. At first, he thought village life would be boring, but he soon
discovered that it was not as quiet as he had expected. There are many local
festivals, sports clubs, and community events. He also spends less money than he
did in the city because housing and daily expenses are cheaper.
In the end, both Anna and David agree that no place is perfect. The city is less
peaceful than the countryside, but it offers more job opportunities. The
countryside is not as convenient as the city for public transport, but it provides a
healthier and more relaxing lifestyle. They believe that the best place to live
depends on each person's needs and preferences.
