communities must work together to help reduce these
problems and support students’ education.

 HOW TO STOP SCHOOL VIOLENCE

Rampant school violence is a problem for parents

and educators alike. When parents and teachers
know how to stop school violence, they can help
to make a safer environment for students.
1. Be a good role model. There are many bad role models for students
to learn from both in the media and all around them. Now more
than ever, young people need to see positive role models that they
can learn from.
2. Remove any weapons from your home. If students do not have
access to weapons, then they are less likely to use them in school.
3. Discourage bad behavior. If you notice your student or child making
fun of another student, stop it immediately. Those who perpetuate
school violence are often students who were ridiculed in the past.
4. Report any threats or suspicious behavior. Report them
immediately.
5. Parents should support any measures that the school takes to
ensure students’ safety.

or even in the news. It’s important to discuss these things
with your children or students so that they know that it’s
