WHAT IS ENDOCRINE SYSTEM?
The endocrine system is a network of glands and organs
that produce and regulate hormones in the body.
Hormones are chemical messengers to regulate various
bodily functions. These functions include growth,
development, metabolism, reproduction, and response to
stress.
THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM
HYPOTHALAMUS
The hypothalamus is a small but crucial
part of the brain. It plays a vital role in
maintaining homeostasis, regulating
various bodily functions such as;
Temperature, Hunger, Thirst, Sleep, and
Growth.
PITUITARY GLAND
The pituitary gland is often referred to as the
"master gland" because of its crucial role in
regulating the endocrine system.
Your pituitary gland is a small, pea-sized
endocrine gland located at the base of your
brain below your hypothalamus.
THYROID GLAND
The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped
endocrine gland located in the front of the
neck, responsible for producing hormones
that regulate metabolism, growth, and
overall body function.
𝙿𝙰𝚁𝙰𝚃𝚈𝚁𝙾𝙸𝙳The parathyroid glands are four
small, pea-sized endocrine glands
𝙶𝙻𝙰𝙽𝙳 located in the neck, usually behind
the thyroid gland. Their primary
function is to produce and release
parathyroid hormone (PTH), which
regulates calcium levels in the
blood and tissues. PTH helps
maintain a stable calcium balance
by affecting bones, kidneys, and
the intestines.
ADRENAL The adrenal glands are small,
triangular-shaped glands located
GLAND on top of each kidney. They are
part of the endocrine system and
produce hormones that regulate
vital body functions like
metabolism, immune response,
and stress response. Each gland
has two parts, the cortex and
medulla, which produce different
hormones.
The pineal gland, also known as the
PINEAL GLAND pineal body or epiphysis cerebri, is a
small, pinecone-shaped
neuroendocrine gland located in the
brain. Its primary function is to
produce and secrete melatonin, a
hormone that regulates sleep-wake
cycles and circadian rhythms. The
pineal gland is located in the midline
of the brain, attached to the roof of
the third ventricle.
REPRODUCTIVE A REPRODUCTIVE GLAND, ALSO KNOWN
AS A GONAD OR SEX GLAND, IS A MIXED
GLAND GLAND AND SEX ORGAN THAT
PRODUCES GAMETES (SEX CELLS) AND
SEX HORMONES. IN FEMALES, THE
OVARIES ARE THE REPRODUCTIVE
GLANDS, PRODUCING EGGS (OVA) AND
HORMONES LIKE ESTROGEN AND
PROGESTERONE. IN MALES, THE
TESTES ARE THE REPRODUCTIVE
GLANDS, PRODUCING SPERM AND
HORMONES LIKE TESTOSTERONE
The pancreas is a crucial
PANCREAS abdominal organ that performs
both digestive and endocrine
functions. It aids in digestion by
producing pancreatic juice, which
contains enzymes that break
down food, and it also produces
hormones like insulin that
regulate blood sugar levels. It's
located behind the stomach,
surrounded by other organs like
the spleen, liver, and small
intestine.
