Services
Presenter 1: Introduction
“Good morning, everyone. We are Group 32, and today we will be discussing
an important topic: The Problems of ICT in Library Services.
Information and Communication Technology, or ICT, has greatly improved
how libraries operate by making access to information faster and easier.
However, despite these benefits, integrating ICT into library services comes
with several challenges.
In this presentation, we will highlight and explain some of the major
problems affecting the effective use of ICT in libraries.”
Presenter 2: Financial Challenges
“The first major challenge is Funding and High Costs.
Implementing ICT in libraries requires a large financial investment. Libraries
need to purchase computers, servers, and other digital equipment. In
addition to this, there are ongoing expenses such as software licenses,
internet subscriptions, and electricity bills.
Many libraries, especially in developing regions, struggle to secure enough
funding to maintain these systems, making it difficult to sustain ICT services
in the long term.”
Presenter 3: Infrastructure Issues
“The second problem is Infrastructure.
For ICT systems to function properly, there must be a reliable power supply
and strong internet connectivity. Unfortunately, frequent power outages can
damage equipment and interrupt services.
Also, slow or unstable internet connections make it difficult for users to
access online resources such as e-books and research databases. Without
proper infrastructure, ICT tools cannot perform effectively.”
Presenter 4: Human Resource Challenges
“The third issue is the Human Factor.
Technology depends heavily on the people using it. Many libraries lack staff
who are properly trained in ICT. This leads to inefficiency in managing digital
systems.
In addition, some staff and users experience technophobia, which is the fear
or resistance to using technology. This limits the full adoption and use of ICT
services in libraries.”
Presenter 5: Maintenance and Obsolescence
“The fourth challenge is Maintenance and Obsolescence.
Technology evolves very quickly, and devices can become outdated within a
few years. Libraries often struggle to upgrade their systems regularly.
Furthermore, poor maintenance culture means that when equipment breaks
down, it may not be repaired promptly due to lack of technicians or spare
parts. This results in unused or abandoned equipment.”
Presenter 6: Security and Legal Issues
“The fifth problem is Security and Copyright Issues.
Digital systems are vulnerable to cyber threats such as hacking, viruses, and
data breaches. These can lead to loss of important library information.
Additionally, managing copyright in digital libraries is challenging. Digital
materials can be easily copied and shared without permission, creating legal
and ethical concerns for library management.”
Presenter 7: Conclusion
“In conclusion, while ICT has greatly improved library services, it also
presents several challenges.
Key issues such as funding, infrastructure, human resources, maintenance,
and security must be addressed for ICT to be effective.
A library cannot function efficiently with technology alone—it requires proper
support systems and trained personnel.
