Grandma’s Special Advice
Maya was a bright and curious girl who loved school, but she had
a big problem—her class was having a spelling test on Friday, and no
matter how much she practiced, she kept forgetting some of the words.
She felt frustrated and nervous about the test. After school on Thursday,
she went to visit her grandmother, Grandma Rose, who was always full
of wisdom and good advice. Maya hoped her grandmother could help
her find a way to remember the tricky words.
Grandma Rose listened carefully as Maya explained her problem.
Instead of telling her to practice the same way, Grandma Rose had a new
idea. “Let’s make a silly story using your spelling words,” she suggested
with a warm smile. Maya was curious but willing to try. Together, they
created a funny story about a talking cat wearing a purple hat and a
squirrel who loved to dance. Every time Maya used a new spelling word,
she wrote it down and said it out loud. She laughed as the story got
sillier, and soon, the words started to stick in her memory.
The next day, Maya walked into class feeling much more
confident. When the spelling test began, she took a deep breath and
imagined the story she had created with her grandmother. The words
came to her easily, and she wrote them down without hesitation. By the
end of the test, she felt proud of herself, knowing she had done her best.
When the teacher returned the graded tests, Maya saw a perfect score on
her paper! She could hardly wait to tell Grandma Rose the good news.
That evening, Maya ran to her grandmother’s house with a huge
smile. “Grandma, I got 100% on my test!” she exclaimed. Grandma
Rose hugged her and said, “I knew you could do it, my dear. Learning is
always easier when we make it fun.” As Maya snuggled next to her
grandmother, she felt happy and proud. It had been a wonderful day, and
she knew she would always remember Grandma’s special advice.
A Day at the Zoo
Last Saturday, my family and I went to the zoo, and I was so
excited! The sun was shining, and the air was fresh as we arrived at the
entrance. I had been looking forward to this trip all week because I love
animals. As we walked inside, I could hear birds chirping and monkeys
chattering in the distance. My little brother, Adam, ran ahead, eager to
see the lions, while I wanted to visit the elephant exhibit first.
Our first stop was the elephant enclosure. The elephants were
enormous, with big, flapping ears and long trunks that they used to grab
food. I watched in amazement as one elephant sprayed water from its
trunk, cooling itself off. Next, we visited the monkey area, where the
playful monkeys swung from tree to tree, making everyone laugh. At the
reptile house, I saw a giant python curled up inside a glass cage, and
even though it was behind the glass, I still felt a little nervous!
After a few hours, we took a break to eat lunch at a picnic area.
While we were eating, a peacock walked by, showing off its beautiful,
colorful feathers. My mom took pictures, and we fed some birds that
came close to our table. After lunch, we went to see the lions. They were
resting under the shade, but suddenly, one of them stood up and let out a
loud roar! It was the most exciting moment of the day.
As the sun began to set, it was time to leave. I felt a little sad
that the day was over, but I was also happy because I had seen so many
amazing animals. On the way home, I told my parents that I wanted to
come back again soon. It had been a perfect day, full of adventure and
fun, and I knew I would always remember my special trip to the zoo.
A Fresh Start
Liam stared out of the car window as his family drove through
their new town. Everything looked different from his old home—the
streets, the houses, even the school he would be attending. Tomorrow
was his first day, and his stomach twisted in knots just thinking about it.
What if no one talked to him? What if he couldn’t find his classes? He
missed his old friends and the familiar hallways of his old school.
Moving to a new place felt scary, and he wasn’t sure if he would ever
feel at home here.
The next morning, Liam walked into his new school, gripping his
backpack straps tightly. The hallways were filled with students chatting
and laughing, but he felt invisible as he searched for his classroom.
When he finally found his seat, the teacher introduced him, and a few
students smiled at him. One boy, Noah, leaned over and whispered,
“Hey, you can sit with us at lunch if you want.” Liam felt a small wave
of relief and nodded. Maybe today wouldn’t be so bad after all.
At lunch, Liam nervously carried his tray over to Noah’s table,
where a few other kids were sitting. “So, where did you move from?”
one of them asked. As Liam talked about his old school and his favorite
things to do, he realized that he had a lot in common with them. They
liked the same video games, played basketball, and even watched the
same TV shows. By the end of lunch, he was laughing along with them,
feeling more comfortable than he had expected.
By the time the final bell rang, Liam felt lighter. He had
survived his first day, and it hadn’t been nearly as scary as he thought.
As he walked out of school, Noah caught up with him. “We’re playing
basketball after school at the park. Want to join?” Liam smiled. “Yeah,
that sounds great.” At that moment, he knew things were going to be
okay. This new town wasn’t so bad after all, and maybe, just maybe, it
was the start of something good.
