🎹🎸 Beginner Music Teaching Guide (Piano & Guitar)

1. Core Teaching Principles

Think of this like building a small musical “toolbox” first, then expanding it.

Key Ideas

 80/20 Rule
o 20% of music concepts create 80% of songs.
o Focus on:
 chords
 rhythm
 simple scales
 Songs before theory
o Teach songs first.
o Use theory only to explain what they are playing.
 Short daily practice
o 15–20 minutes daily is better than long sessions once a week.
 Progress over perfection
o Early goal: sound like a song, not perfect technique.
 Student chooses songs
o Motivation increases when they learn music they love.
