Annamrita Foundation
(formerly known as ISKCON Food Relief Foundation)
30th August, 2018
Annamrita Foundation previously known as ISKCON Food Relief Foundation is the largest Mid Day Meal
provider in Maharashtra and one of the largest in the world. Based on the ISKCON philosophy of “No child
goes hungry” Annamrita Foundation prepares hygienically cooked, healthy wholesome meals to needy
children across 7 states of India.
The Mid Day Meal programme was started by the Government of India in 1995 to provide Nutritional
Support to Primary Education with an aim to increase attendance in municipality schools. But the program
for a very long time was struggling to meet its objective with hygiene being the major concern for the meal
preparation.
In 2004 ISKCON Food Relief Foundation partnered with the Government of India to help support this
project. We started by providing meals to 900 children from one small room and today 14 years later we
are providing over 1 million meals to children from 19, ISO 22000:2005 certified kitchens.
Annamrita is a non-profit, non-religious, non-sectarian public charitable trust. Its Midday Meal program is
being implemented in municipal, government aided and non-aided schools for the benefit of
underprivileged children. The work is done without any commercial motive and the benefits are available
to needy students at large without any discrimination on the grounds of religion, caste, creed or gender.
Our kitchen in Mumbai, Mira Bhayander, Palghar, Nigdi, Wada, Aurangabad, Gurgaon, Delhi, Faridabad,
Kurukshetra, Palwal, Tirupati, Nellore, Rajahmundry, Kadapa, Ranganara Gadda, Jamshedpur, Jaipur and
Kolkata serve children from urban slums to tribal areas. The purpose of implementing this scheme is to
support the Government in increasing the enrollment in these schools and fight malnourishment. As these
are the formative years for the future adult, nutritious meals are of prime importance in their growth.
Social Impact of Annamrita
• By providing one wholesome nutritious meal during the school lunch hours, the project is addressing
the issue of class-room hunger and malnutrition. As a result, there is a significant improvement in
school enrolment and attendance.
• Healthy meals ensure better attention span and academic progress thereby supporting Education for
underprivileged children
• Sharing the financial responsibility of the underprivileged section. In most of the cases, both the
parents are working and the family income is as low as Rs. 5000/-. One full meal is a great incentive
for the parents to send the children to school and it shares the financial burden of these parents.
• Serving a common meal to all has been instrumental in helping children unite and rise above cultural
and caste differences.
