6. DIRECTION: In the question, a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a 1
statement of Reason (R). Choose the correct option.
Assertion(A): The value of y is 6, for which the distance between the
points P(2, –3) and Q(10, y) is 10.
Reason(R): Distance between two given points A (x1, y1) and B (x2, y2) is
given by
s(a) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true, and reason (R) is the
correct explanation of assertion (A)
(b) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true, and reason (R) is not the
correct explanation of assertion (A)
(c) Assertion (A) is true, but reason (R) is false.
(d) Assertion (A) is false, but reason (R) is true.
SECTION B
Section B consists of 2 questions of 2 marks each.
7. State the sign of coordinates (x, y) in each of the four quadrants. 2
OR
A point P has x-coordinate 4 and lies on the x-axis. Write its coordinates.
Also write the coordinates of point Q which is 3 units above the y-axis on
the y-axis.
8. If the distance of a point x from the origin on a number line is 7/2 units, 2
write the two possible rational values for x and express them using
absolute value notation .
SECTION C
Section C consists of 2 questions of 3 marks each
9. For triangle ADM with A(3, 4), D(7, 1) and M(9, 6), find the lengths of all 3
three sides. Then verify whether reflection in the y-axis preserves side
lengths by computing D’ M’, M’ A’ and A’ D’ where A’, D’ and M’ are the
refelections of A,D and M in Y axis.
10. Prove that √7 is an irrational number using the Proof by Contradiction 3
method.

angled isosceles triangle.
SECTION E
Section E consists of 1 question of 4 marks
12. A carpenter is designing a wooden square platform for a school event.
The side of the square platform is 8m. To strengthen the structure, he
measures the diagonal of the platform using a rope. By applying
mathematical concepts, the diagonal is found to be 8√2m.
The carpenter also uses a decorative strip of length 4.25m along one side
of the platform.
(i) Find the p/q form of 4.25 and also write one rational number equivalent to 1
