I. COURSE NAME: Criminology 7 – Criminological Research 1 (Research Methods
with Applied Statistics)
II. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course focuses on the conduct of criminological
research on crimes, crime causation, victims and offenders to include deviant
behavior. It encompasses the nature and concept of criminological research and
the application of appropriate statistical tools in the analysis and interpretation
of research data.
III. NO. OF UNITS: 3 Units – 1 Hour Lecture/Unit
IV. NO. OF HOURS PER WEEK: 3 Hours
V. RATIONALE: This course will provide an opportunity for students to establish or
advance their understanding on the language of research, ethical principles and
challenges, and the elements of research process within quantitative,
qualitative, and mixed methods approaches. This is also includes research
designs, sampling, measurement, data collection methods, analysis and
presentation of results.
VI. OBJECTIVES: At the end of this course, the students are expected to:
Explain fully the basic concepts and fundamental of criminological
research.
Realize the significant of research in modern criminology.
Described fully the method of research’s utilized in the field of criminology;
Experience the analytical presentation of research in front of people
recognized in their knowledge of research.
Value the application of research as a tool in their future work.
