A. Introduction

Patterns are all around us!

Looking for patterns and understanding patterns gives us great
power. With patterns, we can learn to predict the future, discover
new things and unde rstand the world around us in a better way.
B. What is the pattern?
A pattern is something that repeats or grows with some rule.

For Example: In the example mentioned above, the red circle

comes after the blue circle, so there is a pattern.

A number pattern is a pattern or sequence of numbers. This

pattern establishes a relationship between all numbers.

Here, we can get the numbers in the pattern by adding 5 to the
previous number.
Given are the steps to solve number patterns:
1. To solve number patterns related questions, we first need to find
out the rule with which numbers are related.
2. To do so, first, we need to see the few numbers in the given
pattern.
3. Try to find out the difference between consecutive numbers; it
will help us understand the rule.

iv. Patterns involving shapes:

Such patterns occur when a group of shapes are repeated over and
over again. These patterns follow a specific sequence or order of
shapes that are repeated at least two times. The shapes can be
simple shapes like circles or squares or other objects such as arrows,
flowers, moons, and stars.

If we observe the figure above, we will find circles, triangles,

pentagons, and stars in the pattern.

Steps to follow while solving patterns that involve shapes:
1. Name the shapes that are there in the pattern.
2. Identify the sequence of the shapes.
3. The easiest way to do this is to start listing the shapes in the
order they appear.
4. Look for when the sequence of shapes starts to repeat.
5. Find the next figure in the given pattern :

12+4=16
16+4=20
The given pattern follows the rule “Add 4”.
Therefore, to find the missing number, we have to add 4 to 20.

2. The first number in a pattern is 5. The pattern follows the rule
“Add 3”. The correct pattern is:

First day=10
