Gradient, Divergence, and Curl - Notes & Exercises

1. Gradient
Definition: ∇f = (∂f/∂x, ∂f/∂y, ∂f/∂z)

Example: f = x² + y² + z² → ∇f = (2x, 2y, 2z)

Exercises:

1. f = x³ + y³ + z³

2. f = xy + yz + zx

2. Divergence
Definition: ∇·F = ∂Fx/∂x + ∂Fy/∂y + ∂Fz/∂z

Example: F = (x, y, z) → divergence = 3

Exercises:

1. F = (xy, yz, zx)

2. F = (x²y, y²z, z²x)

3. Curl
Definition: ∇×F (determinant form)

Example: F = (-y, x, 0) → curl = (0, 0, 2)

Exercises:

1. F = (x², y², z²)

2. F = (yz, zx, xy)
