First Holy Communion Programme 2026

Sacred Heart Church, Rajagiriya - English Medium

Dear Parents,

Please note that the following requirements apply to all children who are registered for
the First Holy Communion Programme 2026.

1. Attendance:

Each child must maintain a minimum of 80% attendance at First Holy Communion
classes to be eligible to receive the sacrament.

2. Prayers:

Every child must be able to memorise the prayers taught during the programme,
including:

• Sign of the Cross

• Act of Contrition

• Our Father

• Hail Mary

• I Confess

3. Rehearsals:

Attendance at all rehearsals is compulsory. Children are expected to attend every


rehearsal as scheduled.

4. Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession):

The child and both Catholic parents are required to attend the Sacrament of
Reconciliation on the allocated date. This is compulsory.

5. Eligibility for First Holy Communion:

A child who does not:

• achieve the required 80% attendance,

• memorise the required prayers,

• attend all rehearsals, or

• fulfil the required preparation,⁠

will not be eligible to receive First Holy Communion in 2026

We kindly request parents not to ask the parish priest or the catechists for
exceptions at the last minute, as these requirements apply equally to all
candidates.

Details regarding the First Holy Communion Mass and the celebration will be
communicated to you in due course.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and commitment in helping your child
prepare to receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.
