6 IDENTIFICATION METHODOLOGY

Use the appropriate drawing index designation letter shown below to precede the
drawing number, when a set of drawings contains more than one discipline’s or
category of drawings (i.e., architectural, structural, mechanical, etc.).

Index Designation Category

A Architectural
C Vicinity Map (general direction to site), Site Plan (overall
master), Layout Plan (site enlargements), Grading (existing
contours and new contours), Drainage (culverts, inlets,
open ditch), Landscaping, Planting and Seeding, Railroads
(plan and profile, cross section and details), Roads (plan
and profile, cross section), Paving (sections and details),
Yard Piping and Utilities (to include sewer lines, water
lines, gas lines, telephone lines (overhead or underground),
electrical lines (overhead or underground), fire protection,
and fuel lines)
D Demolition
E Electrical
F Fire Protection
G General Arrangement
M Mechanical, Plumbing, Heating, Ventilation and Air
Conditioning
P Piping Flow Diagrams, Process (to include hydraulic
profiles, process piping)
S Structural

Often final numbers and titles cannot be assigned to the drawings until the project
is nearly complete. It is very important that a drawing be given some sort of title
and number for use as a reference during the design process. Use the appropriate
drawing index designation with the drawing number to assist placing a drawing in
a category of design as described above. Drawing numbers shall be assigned by
the Project Manager or a designated member of the project team.

2.7 WORKING WITH OLD FILES

When working with pre-standardized files, certain procedures should be followed.

If the file is being opened just to produce a hard copy, the employee-owner has
the option of either adjusting the pen settings to produce the desired output, or
adjusting the color scheme to match current Staple & Breaker standards. The
appropriate method is dependent upon many factors, and the CADD System
Administrator should be consulted to determine how to produce the desired
output.

2.8 STANDARD DETAIL STORAGE

Standard AutoCad details are stored on the file server (“C:” drive) in the
“C:DRIVE/Autodesk/AutoCad/DETAILS” directory. This provides a common
location, so that not only are files properly backed up onto tape, but all CAD users
can be assured that they are using the same revisions of the standard details.
There is a standard book of details, which has all of the details printed in it,
located on the black bookcase in the IT Department.

2.9 THIRD-PARTY APPLICATIONS

Only approved third-party applications installed by the IT Department are

acceptable. When considering any third-party application, the quality of the
documentation is a major factor. Another important consideration is flexibility.
The programming must be flexible enough to allow manipulation of layer names
and colors, along with text styles and heights.

2.10 USE OF OUTSIDE-SOURCE AND IN-HOUSE-RELEASE OF CAD FILES

Refer to IT Department policies.

2.11 SCANNING

Consult the IT Department for scanning capabilities.

2.12 PROJECT FILES BACKUP PROCEDURES

Refer to IT Department policies.

2.13 PROJECT FILES ARCHIVAL PROCEDURES

Refer to IT Department policies.

2.14 COMPUTER USE POLICY

Refer to IT Department policies.

2.15 COMPUTER LOG-ON PROCEDURES

Refer to IT Department policies.

SECTION 3

AUTOCAD-SPECIFIC STANDARDS

3.1 INTRODUCTION

This Section of the manual contains procedures and standards that will only be
used in the production of drawings using AutoCad.

3.2 INTERFACE CUSTOMIZATION

There will be a standard NTS interface for your use that contains an NTS Tool
Palette, NTS Pull Down Menu, NTS ToolBars that will have menu’s, blocks,
hatches, barscales, etc., for you to use in drafting a set of plans. Under no
circumstance should you customize your interface without the prior approval of
the CADD Systems Administrator.

3.3 SHEET SET PROJECTS

A Sheet Set will be used on all projects for use in all aspects of maintaining and
creating sheets. Failure to use Sheet Sets will result in communication problems
in the latter part of a project. See Appendix C for procedures in creating a Sheet
Set from scratch.

3.4 TEMPLATE FILES FOR BASE FILES

There will be two template files in the “C:DRIVE\Autodesk\AutoCad\Tmp”

directory. These files will have the units preset for your use. They are as follows:
Tmp_Arch.dwt and Tmp_Dec.dwt

3.5 STANDARD PROFILES

There is a standard profile for your use, located on the C: drive under the
“C:DRIVE\Autodesk\AutoCad\Prf” directory, called “EnterpriseUser”. This profile
contains all of your search paths for support, device, menus, printers, templates,
etc. You will be notified by e-mail if there is an update.

3.6 DRAWING INFORMATION

Drawing information should be on all drawings for ease of finding drawings in

the future. The block can be inserted from the NTS Tool Palette, NTS Pull Down
Menu, NTS ToolBars or you can insert thru the insert block method. The location
for the block is under C:DRIVE\Autodesk\AutoCad\Blk\Dwg_Info.dwg. It inserts
at the lower-left corner of the title block. See Appendix D for example.

10/5/2005
3.7 TITLE BLOCKS

Approved title blocks are located in the

“C:DRIVE\Autodesk\AutoCad\Tmp\Sheet_Size” directory. There are 4 NTS title
blocks to choose from based on client specifications of sheet size. The 4 title
blocks are for sheet sizes 11”x17”, 22”x34”, 24”x36” and 30”x42”. All title
blocks will be copied from the above directory and put in the _ProjRef directory
of their specific job to be modified. See Appendix E for File-Naming
Conventions of a title block file name. If for some reason these title blocks are not
acceptable for the project, use the information below to create a standard and
consistent size border to be used throughout the project.

A drawing border is based upon the final plotted scale, using a 1.5" left
sheet margin and 1/2" top, bottom, and right sheet margins.

See Appendix F for standard sheet sizes.

3.8 REFERENCE FILES

Reference files are considered base plans and pieces of info that will be used on
multiple drawings. All graphic information and any additional information must
be drawn in a base plan. All information contained in base plans will not
necessarily be displayed on each sheet file. Base plans shall include all existing
construction, new construction, demolition entities, match lines and informational
text. Plan details, annotation, dimensions, etc., will not be drawn in base plans.
All base files must be drawn in model space at a 1:1 scale.

The color property for all entities must be defined as BYLAYER. This will allow
each user to redefine the display of the drawing information without affecting the
original elements properties. All base plans are to be referenced by the “Overlay”
option and not by “Attached”. Only client drawings will use the “Attached”
option. All base plans will be shown in their respective discipline _Ref directory.

3.9 BASE FILES

Base files shall include all existing construction, new construction, demolition
entities, match lines and informational text. Plan details, annotation, dimensions,
etc., will not be drawn in base plans, unless otherwise specified. All base files
must be drawn in model space at a 1:1 scale.

3.10 SHEET FILES

Sheet files will contain referenced base files, plan details, annotation, title blocks,
etc. Make sure the Dimscale (1), Ltscale (0.5) and Psltscale (1) are set to their
respective values. Insert any Xref into model space before entering paper space.
Also insert the Xref at 0,0 (World UCS) to maintain project/survey coordinates.

10/5/2005
3.10 SHEET FILES (Cont.)
Use Paper Space as a plotting tool. Only include notes, dimensions, text, border,
barscales, etc. in paper space. Any additional drawing entities should remain in
model space of your base files. Viewports will be created on their own unique
layer. This allows the view lines to be Turned Off when the sheet is plotted.

3.11 PLOTTING

The Sheet Set sheet creation template files should already have the plotting
portion completed, however if a sheet set was not used, then you will need to do a
page setup on all drawings before you plot a page setup consist of the plotter , pen
tables, paper size, print area, orientation, scale, etc. Set this up once and it will
stay with the drawing at all times. Unless specified by a client, you should use the
[Link] and [Link] file for every plot.

See Appendix G for the [Link] and [Link] pen settings.

3.12 LAYERS

To maintain consistency throughout the project, it is necessary to use a consistent

layer system. A layer name describes a particular design feature and each person
is responsible for assigning the appropriate layer name for the design feature.

On certain projects, the client has a preferred layering system to be used. For
example, NTS drawings shall be drawn to meet the “NTS Standard and
Guidelines for Preparation of CADD Drawings” Manual. In those cases, the
Project Manager should relay this information to the project team member. When
a specific layering system is not required, the Staple & Breaker standard
AutoCAD layers shall be used.

See Appendix H for a listing of Layers.

3.13 TEXT, STYLES AND FONTS

Mtext should be the only text type used in the drawings. Text should be in Paper
Space of the Sheet Drawing, not the Base Drawing, unless otherwise specified.
See Appendix I for the parameters to define the text styles and heights to be used.

In AutoCad you should be using the internal editor that AutoCad provides for
you. Wordpad or Notepad is unacceptable for use as a text editor.
