Problem statement
We all know that there are many Children deprived of the most basic thing in their life which is family, so
they are forced to live in orphanage. No matter how well equipped an orphanage is they cannot fulfill
every kid’s need and provide them basic knowledge, through this community project I focused on solving
some basic problems mentioned below.

In today's modern world everyone should know his/her rights which can prevent them from falling in a
trap in the world filled with people who scam others for their own benefits. Sustainable development is
also an important topic which everyone needs to know as due to increasing problems like pollution,
climate change, dependence on non-renewable resources which also lead to more pollution children needs
to know about sustainable development. Along with teaching them the basic stuff I also donated some
stationary to the orphanage

I tried to solve some problems as an individual. The energy and time it took was addressable but the result
it showed was of great significance. As an individual my opinion to society is to work in groups, work
alone but your little efforts to the goodness of the society will bring a drastic change in the society as well
as in the minds of the Neighbours and collogue. This will further promote wellness of the nation and the
world we live in.
The way I helped the upcoming generation of our nation are:-
 Teaching them basic human rights
 Teaching them importance of sustainable development
 Providing basic stationary to the Children

Key success:-
 Growth of children
 Environment protection

Major challenges:
 Difficulty in gathering the attention of children as first.
 As the no of children was a lot I was unable to control them alone.
 Deciding the relevant topic for the children was tough process.

Executive summary
Community programs can expand the opportunities for youth to acquire personal and social
assets and to experience the broad range of features of positive developmental settings

The activities I conducted, provided essential knowledge to the children about basic human
rights and importance of sustainable development. I selected these activities because children are
the future of a nation and according to me they should be knowledgeable about the most
important topics in today’s society

In first activity I taught them about human rights, what are human rights, why are they important
in ones life and other such topics
In second activity they were taught about sustainable development and its importance as it is the
most important topic in today’s World. Along with this I also conducted an activity in which
they were encouraged to plant trees and take care of them
For the final activity I distributed stationary essentials which will help them in future and also
provide motivation to learn new things

Chapter1:
INTRODUCTION TO
COMMUNITY SERVICE
1.1 Meaning of Community Service
Community service is work done by a person or group of people that benefits others. It is often
done near the area where you live, so your own community reaps the benefits of your work. You
do not get paid to perform community service but volunteer your time. Community service can
help many different groups of people: children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, even
animals and the environment. Community service is often organized through a local group, such
as a place of worship, school, or non-profit organization, but you can also start your own
community service projects. Many people participate in community service because they enjoy
helping others and improving their community. Some students are required to do community
service to graduate high school or to receive certain honours. Some adults are also ordered by a
judge to complete a certain number of community service hours.
It may be performed for a variety of reasons: -
1. It may be required by a government as a part of citizenship requirements.
2. It may be required as a substitution of or in addition to, other criminal justice sanctions- when
performed for this reason it may also be referred to as community payback.
3. It may be mandated by schools and colleges to meet the requirements of a class, such as in the
case of service- learning or to meet the requirements of graduating as class valedictorian.

1.2 What you can do by doing Community Service

There are numerous benefits to participating in community service, both for you and others.
Below are some of the most important benefits of volunteering:
1. Gives you a way to help others
2. Helps improve your community
3. Can help strengthen your resume and college applications
4. Can be a way to meet new friends
5. Often results in personal growth
6. Gives you a way to gain work experience and learn more about certain jobs.
1.3 Different Types of Community Service: -
DIRECT: Direct Service is service that directly affects the persons, animals or parks we want to
impact. This may include volunteering or cleaning up a park. example: Involve students in a
weekly or monthly partnership with a local senior living community or senior centre. Students
could host a game night or participate in one-on- one conversations.
INDIRECT: Indirect Service might take the form of fundraising or collections. It is they type of
service in which you are not in the presence of the person or thing you are impacting. example:
Organize a collection drive to ask neighbours and school families to donate supplies or gifts for a
family that has recently experienced a loss.
ADVOCACY: Advocacy is when you speak up for or against an issue or solution. When we use
our voices, we are being advocates. example: Create a program for the school or community that
discusses anti-bullying
RESEARCH: Research involves finding out new information that informs or demands action.
For example, it could be scientific data collection or a survey. example: Take water samples and
participate in species count days. Share research data about the health of a site to ask the
community to act.

1.4 BENEFITS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community service also allows those participating to reflect on the difference they are making
in society. Some participants of a community service project may find themselves gaining a
greater understanding of their roles in the community, as well as the impact of their contributions
towards those in need of service. Because community service outlets vary, those who serve are
exposed to many kinds of people, environments, and situations. With each new community
service project, some participants may gain insightful experience in a variety of areas.
Participants may also internalize the information that they found personally insightful for future
use. While simply performing community service is valuable to the recipients, those serving
often find it beneficial to pause and reflect on how they are changing society for the better.
Participants may find that serving the public fosters a more solidified view of self and purpose.
Those involved in community service learning may also find that after serving the community
for an extended period, they have an advantage in real- world experience. Eventually, the skills
and knowledge obtained to help working with the community may be applied in future areas of
work. Community service may also increase a participant’s social connectivity. Because most
community service opportunities allow others to interact and work with other individuals, this
service may help volunteers network and connect with others towards a common goal. People
gain the most from their community service projects when they volunteer their time to help
people that they have never interacted with before. This direct contact allows people to see life
from a different perspective and evaluate their opinions of others. Many young people who get
involved in community service come out with a well-rounded worldview.

Chapter2:
Activities conducted
2.1 Teaching kids human rights: -
We all know the importance of human rights in our life. According to me everyone should be
aware of his/her human rights mentioned in the constitution of India. Knowledge about basic
human rights is essential in today's period of time, especially for the upcoming generation, so
that they know what is acceptable and what's not. Knowing the basic rights can help children to
prevent any kind of crime happening to them such as discrimination in school and workplace,
preventing them to their basic needs etc.
I used examples while explaining these rights to make the process more enjoyable. I taught them
the importance of these rights in everyone's life and how to react if someone is trying to breach
and violate these rights. Keeping this in mind I decided to teach the children their basic
fundamental rights which included: -
 Right to equality
 Right to freedom
 Right against exploitation
 Right to freedom of religion
 Cultural and educational rights
 Right to speech

Lesson learned:-
While conducting this activity I learned that children are fats learners if right methods are used,
it was a an unexpected experience as I thought it would be quite difficult to teach them as it was
my first time doing such task But it went quite smooth
2.2 Teaching children importance of sustainable
development: -
Sustainable development is a trending topic in the modern world. And one should know about it
as it is very important not only for our future but also for the upcoming generations. I taught
them the meaning and importance of sustainable development. It also included a short brief of
topics such as :-
 Recycling
 Use of renewable source of energy
 Using what is needed and reducing the waste
 Importance of planting tree
 Rain water harvesting, etc.

While teaching them about sustainable development was important. I also conducted an activity
in which we planted trees to promote sustainable development and also taught them why trees
are important for our nature and the future for our society.

Lesson learned:-
During this activity I saw that how passionate kids can be, during the tree planting activity they
were arguing about the particular place and variety of the plant like it was their pet or something.
It was a very wholesome and heart warming experience.
2.3 distributing essential stationary items : -

As the final activity I decided to distribute some stationary products to the children. It was a
spontaneous act as I thought it would be a great gift from my side to those children. I decided to
distribute stationary rather than any other thong because it will be useful for those kids in their
education.
At first it was bit rough as all the kids started fighting over the colour of the stationary but along
with the help of my friends we handled the situation and came to a conclusion that is some one
wants a different colour stationary come to us rather than fighting with each other.

Lesson learned :-
While distributing the stationary I realised the importance of management and how it can help in
easing the task and avoids conflict.
CHAPTER -3
CONCLUSION

3.1 - CONCLUSION

Community programs can expand the opportunities for youth to acquire personal and social
assets and to experience the broad range of features of positive developmental settings.

Programs can also fill gaps in the opportunities available in specific adolescents’ lives. Among
other things, these programs can incorporate opportunities for physical, cognitive, and social and
emotional development; opportunities to deal with issues of ethnic identity, sexual identity, and
intergroup relationships; opportunities for community involvement and service; and
opportunities to interact with caring adults and a diversity of peers who hold positive social
norms and have high life goals and expectations. All young people need a variety of experiences
to develop to their full potential. All youth need an array of experiences to reduce risktaking and
promote both current well-being and successful transition into adulthood. Such experiences
include opportunities to learn skills, to make a difference in their community, to interact with
youth from multicultural backgrounds, to have experiences in leadership and shared decision
making, and to make strong connections with no familial adults. These experiences are important
to all young people, regardless of racial or ethnic group, socioeconomic status, or special needs
and through this community service project I am able to get a lot new experience as a teacher,
mentor, a learner and as a student.
