Grade 9 Maths Lesson
Day 2 Theorems Similarity of Triangles

Two triangles are said to be similar, if and only if

I, their corresponding sides are proportional (have the same ratio)

II, their corresponding angles are congruent.
i.e. ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶 ~∆𝐷𝐸𝐹 , if and only if
𝐴𝐵 𝐵𝐶 𝐴𝐶
= = and < 𝐴 ≡< 𝐷, < 𝐵 ≡< 𝐸, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 < 𝐶 ≡< 𝐹
𝐸𝐹 𝐸𝐹 𝐷𝐹

There are also tests to determine whether two triangles are similar or not

These are: I) SSS-Similarity theorem (Side –Side-Side)

If the corresponding sides of two triangles are proportional, then the triangles are similar.

B C E F
𝐴𝐵 𝐴𝐶 𝐵𝐶
If = = then ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶~∆𝐷𝐸𝐹 by SSS-similarity.
𝐷𝐸 𝐷𝐹 𝐸𝐹
