Good morning respected panel members my name is Dipendu Chatterjee and I
am a semester for MCom student Today I will be presenting my project on the
significance of E commerce in the Indian scenario
Slide - 2 E - Commerce - Significance in Indian Scenario
When we hear about ecommerce we usually just think of online shopping
However in reality it is a massive ecosystem that weaves together technology
finance logistics and human resource to understand how this operates in the real
world we will look closely at Flipkart a company that fundamentally rewired how
Indian shops today as how it used to shop before
Slide 3 Project Objectives
a) Evolution of online retail in India: This point looks at the history of how
Indians started shopping online
b) Business model and performance matrices: this point refers to how
online store operates and do their daily business operations
c) Operational and strategic challenges: this is behind the scene headaches
of how online ecommerce business operates this explores how difficult it is
to run a massive online store
d) Rise of Quick Commerce this investigates the newest trend in online
shopping getting your groceries and daily essentials in 10 to 15 minutes
Slide – 4 Core Business Models
There are four business models in E commerce first is
B2C where businesses sell directly to customers like buying a phone online from
Flipkart
second is B2B which involves businesses trading with other businesses like a
wholesaler manufacturer supplying microchips to a laptop making company
Third is D2C where brands sell directly to you without a middleman
Finally we have C2C, C2C connects everyday people to sell to each other using a
platform A classic example of C2C is OLX
Slide – 5 The Pillars that hold them together
As I have discussed before about the core business models here are the pillars
which hold them together
The first is technological infrastructure which is a digital brain powering the
websites and apps we use
The second is financial gateways which securely handles our payments and
refunds
The third is supply chain logistics the physical network of warehouse and
delivery drivers
the fourth is human resource the massive team needed to keep the business
running smoothly
Slide – 6 Evolution of E – Commerce in India
E commerce in India grew in 4 distinct phases when it all started from the early
Internet stage and goes all the way to our present scenario phase one is the early
Internet stage
Phase two saw the rise of big supermarkets and more people started to buy online
Phase 3 bought massive digital growth
Now lastly in phase four we are in the era of quick commerce where daily
essentials are delivered from dark stores in the matter of minutes
Slide – 7 the flipkart story
Flipkart is a perfect example of this growth it started in 2007 in Bengaluru
apartment it first sold books before expanding to electronics fashion and
groceries
They build trust early on by introducing cash on delivery and they improve their
network by creating their own logistic arm ekart
By 2023 they captured nearly half of the Indian ecommerce market
Slide – 8 The quick commerce era
Today the Flipkart is riding the quick commerce wave with Flipkart minutes
delivering goods incredibly fast even in Tier 2 and tier three cities
They are also forcing heavily on sustainability by electric vehicles and eco
friendly packaging
Additionally they use AI for personalized shopping and are actively supporting
farmers and small scale businesses across India
Slide – 9 Data source and Methodology
Here is the data source types that I have used in my project as you can see it starts
from primary data and goes all the way two methodology
Primary data was collected through survey method which I have conducted
among 100 people
Secondary data is being collected from different secondary sources like from the
internet
To keep things fair and clear I have used tools like bar graph and pie charts
I organized all the customer answers into tables so that I can spot trends and draw
conclusion
Overall I used a mix of numbers and personal feedback to study exactly how
ecommerce impacts supply chain management
Slide – 12 Survey Findings
Most people in the survey of hundred people are young and many are students
almost everyone knows Flipkart
people love Flipkart because it is quick and reliable
users are very happy how Flipkart works
Exactly 85% of the people prefer buying things on the Internet
four out of five people have said that they have an excellent experience the very
first time they have used Flipkart
Slide – 13 Conclusion
E-commerce has completely transformed India's economy by helping small
businesses reach more customers and creating jobs.
Leaders like Flipkart drove this growth with fast deliveries and are now balancing
that speed with eco-friendly practices to protect the planet.
Slide – 14 Recommendation
Companies should expand quick deliveries and financial loans to smaller
towns, while adding AI voice tools and local languages to make apps easier for
everyone to use.
They also need to build trust through easier returns and support sustainability
goals, like reaching 100% electric delivery by 2030, through better infrastructure
and worker training.
Slide 15 – Limitations of the study
The study relies on a small sample of 100 mostly young respondents and uses
basic data charts, which doesn't reflect the whole country.
It also focuses too heavily on Flipkart, missing out on competitors in a fast-
changing market where trends quickly become outdated.
