Reflection Module 1
This week I am writing about the first module of sociology where I learned
Foundations of Sociology. In this module, I learned some basic sociology terms like
Group, Culture, Sociological imagination and Reification. I also learned about some
social institutions and their role. It was an introductory module which gave highlights
what we are going to learn in the further modules. I got an idea that what I will be
studying in the next modules. I learned that we have to write a paper at the end of the
course so the first module is the foundation to write that paper. I learned about the
research methods and scientific methods which are used in sociology. So these
methods will be helpful in choosing the topic as well as in writing the paper. Also, I went
through the course that how I will be accessing the assignments and essays, the
interface is user-friendly and I had no problem in accessing the syllabus, guidelines etc.
I will be enjoying this course then.
I expect to learn more about sociology in this course as I am taking this course
for the fulfillment of my degree requirements. So, I imagine that this course will be
helpful at my workplace as I am and LPN and planning to become RN. Learning the
social issues, their foundations and scientific and sociological methods are important for
me.
By writing the first discussion post and then reading the posts from peers, I came
to know another side of sociology, that it is not only about interacting but also about the
issues we face daily. All of us have to face various social issues depending upon our
ethnicity, gender and profession. Sociology is all about dealing such issues. I will
involve myself in learning the social issues, their foundation and the theories which will
be helpful in addressing such social issues.
