Quick Start Guide

Thank you for purchasing SUPERKNOBS! We at EDMProd hope this provides endless
creativity and inspiration for your music.

Compatibility information
SUPERKNOBS is currently compatible with the following version of Ableton Live:

- Ableton Live 11 Standard

- Ableton Live 11 Suite
- Ableton Live 12 Standard
- Ableton Live 12 Suite

Please ensure your current version of Ableton is up to date before installing.

How to install SUPERKNOBS

Installing SUPERKNOBS is easy-peasy.

All you need to do is place the ‘SUPERKNOBS Effect Racks’ inside your ‘Audio Effect
Rack’ preset folder for Ableton Live.

Recommended installation:

1. Ensure Ableton Live is closed.

2. Locate the ‘User Library’ folder on your computer.
a. On Mac, this is usually under Music -> Ableton -> User Library

 b. On Windows, this is usually under Documents -> Ableton -> User
Library

3. Open the ‘Presets’ folder -> ‘Audio Effects’ -> ‘Audio Effect Rack’

4. Place the ‘SUPERKNOBS Effect Racks’ folder in there. This goes for the same
folders in any extension packs you have purchased.
5. From here, open Ableton Live.
6. In the browser, navigate to Audio Effects -> Audio Effect Rack and click the
dropdown. You should see all of the knobs number 001 and up from there.

7. Optional but recommended: add the folder directly to your ‘Places’ by
clicking ‘Add Folder…’ and selecting the folder you just placed.
a. This makes it easier to access SUPERKNOBS in less clicks.

How to use SUPERKNOBS
Once installed, all you need to do is click and drag any of the 120+ knobs onto any
audio or MIDI channel.

By default, the knob will be in the ‘0’ position, passing the audio through
unprocessed. Simply turn the knob up with the channel playing, and you’ll hear the
knob starting to work.

Crank it up to max to hear more modulation, mangling and effects.

Once you’re happy with the result, simply add more knobs for more creative
transformation following the above steps.

Follow the same steps for installing the Megaracks and Suite Extension Pack.

As for the SUPERKNOBS Instruments, add these to the ‘Instrument Rack’ folder in the
‘Instruments’ folder instead.

That’s it!

Best practices
SUPERKNOBS is designed to be super simple to use without any setup or sound
design knowledge.

That being said, here are a few key things to keep in mind to get the most out of
them:

Input volume:

Although we have tested all knobs at high volumes, some of the SUPERKNOBS work
better at different input levels (due to effects like distortion and compression).

If a certain knob sounds too ‘intense’ at first, add a Utility effect and decrease the
gain to taste.

If a knob sounds not intense enough, increase the gain to taste.

Over-processing:

Sometimes it can be tempting to throw 10 different SUPERKNOBS on, adjust them all
and see what happens.

But just like mixing many colors in painting eventually creates brown, too many
effects can turn any sound to mush.

To avoid this, try turning down certain knobs or removing them completely.

And if you’re not sure which effects go well together, use the MEGA RACKS (coming
soon).

Get your hands dirty:

SUPERKNOBS can be used out of the box with no sound design knowledge.

However, if you do want to dive deeper, you can simply click ‘Show Devices’ on the
sidebar of the effect to see the exact devices we used to make them.

Click the ‘M’ button on the header to see the parameters that have been mapped for
each knob.

You can even tweak the modulations and save your own versions.

Automation:

One of the best parts of SUPERKNOBS is you can automate them easily to create
one-of-a-kind movement in your tracks.

So while you can just move the knob and leave it as is, you can also automate them
overtime.

Troubleshooting & questions

Why can’t I hear anything when I add a knob?

You have to move the knob towards the max (127) position in order for the effect to
come through - while playing some audio or MIDI triggering a synth.

Some knobs create more obvious changes to a sound, and others are more subtle.
Bear this in mind when testing out different knobs.

If you’ve done this and still can’t hear anything, you might need to adjust the input
volume before the knob - see ‘Best practices’.

I can’t find SUPERKNOBS in my browser. Where is it?

If you’ve followed the installation process and can’t find the folder in your a) Audio
Effect Rack folder or b) your browser sidebar, here are a few common issues:

 - You’ve dragged the wrong folder in - make sure it’s the ‘SUPERKNOBS Audio
Effects’ folder
- Ableton hasn’t rescanned the folder yet. Sometimes this can take a few
minutes and is shown by a spinning circle around the ‘Places’ section of the
browser. Afterwards, it should show up.

Worst case scenario - try redownloading the pack or contacting us at

support@[Link].

It’s saying the knobs are incompatible with my version of Ableton Live. What do I
do?

Please note that only Ableton Live 11 & 12, Standard & Suite are supported (due to the
native Audio Effect devices we used to create SUPERKNOBS).

If you have Ableton Live Intro, or are still on version 10 or earlier, these knobs will not
work.

If you’re using a supported version of Ableton Live, please ensure you update to the
most recent version.

The Suite Extension Pack is only compatible with Ableton Live 11 Suite & 12 Suite (as
we use Suite-only devices for these).

If you believe there is an issue with any of the knobs, please contact

Are the knobs 100% dry at ‘0’?

Not always.

Warning: I’m about to nerd out, so if you don’t care about this stuff, don’t worry.

They will sound audibly ‘dry’ (in other words, you won’t hear any differences at ‘0’)
as we have endeavored to keep it this way. This is so they can be used with
automation envelopes.

But due to the use of multiband processing in some of the SUPERKNOBS (not all), this
can alter the signal phase. So you shouldn’t use them in parallel with the
unprocessed audio.

Is there a limit on how many times I can download SUPERKNOBS?

Nah - we hate that kind of stuff, and you probably do too.

The link in your welcome email should work indefinitely should you ever need to
redownload on another device.

Where is the SUPERKNOBS Masterclass?

You’ll be enrolled in it on our course platform, Teachable. If you didn’t get an email
