2. Leg: The part of the body from the

The arms (upper limbs) help us pick things up,
throw balls, and give hugs.

1. The legs (lower limbs) help us stand,

walk, run, and jump.

2. Our elbows in our arms and knees in our

legs are joints that help us bend them.

3. We have fingers on our hands (at the end

of our arms) and toes on our feet (at the
Reading the Key Idea/Stem end of our legs).

4. Our arms and legs are strong and flexible,

helping us do many different activities.

The limbs include the arms and legs,

which are crucial for movement and daily
tasks.

Understanding these body parts helps us learn

how they work together to keep us alive and
active.
Developing Understanding The lower limbs are composed of the thighs,
of Key Idea/Stem knees, lower legs, ankles and feet. You use your
lower limbs for running, walking and jumping

Bones also protect the body's organs. The skull

protects the brain and forms the shape of the
face.

A baby's body has about 300 bones at birth.

These eventually fuse (grow together) to form

the 206 bones that adults have. The skin is the

largest organ of the body, with a total area of
about 20 square feet. The skin protects us from
microbes and the elements, helps regulate body
temperature, and permits the sensations of
touch, heat, and cold.

1. Shoulder: Where the arm connects to the

body.

2. Elbow: The joint in the middle of the arm

that helps it bend.

3. Hand: At the end of the arm, used to hold

4. Foot: At the end of the leg, used to walk

and stand.

Knee: The middle joint of the leg that helps us

bend our legs
