Introduction
On May 30 2025, we conducted an interview to Ma’am Marvian Mae T. Cahilog. A
guidance associate in guidance office of Rizal memorial college. Ma’am was so kind
and approachable, and enthusiastic although the interview process. Although the total
duration of the interview took more than 30 minutes the experience of having a
conversation with a guidance counsellor worth all the effort.
During the interview, Ma’am Cahilog shared valuable insights into the roles and
responsibilities of a guidance associate. She discussed the challenges students
commonly face, such as academic stress, peer pressure, and personal struggles, and
emphasized the importance of active listening and empathy in her profession. She also
highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the Guidance Office to support students’ mental
health and overall well-being.
One of the key takeaways from the conversation was her passion for helping students
navigate both academic and personal challenges. Her dedication to fostering a safe and
supportive environment within the college was evident in the way she spoke about her
work. Overall, the interview was an enlightening and inspiring experience. It not only
deepened our understanding of the critical role guidance counselors play in educational
institutions but also reminded us of the importance of mental health awareness and
support systems within schools.
