(b) A heap of rice is in the form of a cone of diameter 9 m and height 3.5 m. Find
the volume of rice. How much canvas cloth is required to just cover the heap ?

36. A farmer has a field in the shape of a trapezoid. The length of the parallel sides of 4
the trapezoid are 100 meters and 300 meters, respectively. The distance between
the parallel sides (height of the trapezoid) is 120 meters. The farmer decides to paint
trees in rows with the first having 10 trees, the second row having 12 trees, the third
row having 14 trees and so on. The number of trees in each row forms an arithmetic
progression.
(i) How many trees are there in the 5th row ? (1)
(ii) If the farmer has enough space to plant a maximum of 15 rows, what is the total
number of trees that can be planted ? (1)
(iii) (a) Find the number of rows utilized by the farmer to plant a total of 190 trees in

38. Tower cranes are a common fixture at any major construction site. They’re pretty 4
hard to miss. They often rise hundreds of feet into the air and can reach out just as
far. The construction crew uses the tower cranes to lift steel, concrete, large tools like
acetylene torches and generators and a wide variety of other building materials.
