1. (a) Define overlapping sets.

Overlapping sets are those sets which have at least one common element between
them.
In other words, if two sets share some elements, they are called overlapping sets.

1. (b) Solution from the Venn diagram

From the given Venn diagram:

Set A = {a, b, e}
Set B = {c, d, e}

(i) One proper subset of set A is:

{a, b}

(ii) The common element in both A and B is e.

To make A and B disjoint (no common element), we must remove e.

Therefore, the element to be removed is e.

2. (a) Solution

Given:
12 workers can clean 40 meters of river in 2 days.

First, find total worker-days:

12 workers × 2 days = 24 worker-days

24 worker-days clean 40 meters.

Work done by 1 worker in 1 day:

40
24
¿
5
3
meters

Now for 10 workers in 6 days:

10 × 6 = 60 worker-days

Work done =
60
¿
5
3
¿
100
meters

Therefore, 10 workers can clean 100 meters of river in 6 days.

2. (b)

Rahul : Manish = 2 : 3
Rahul invested = Rs. 8,00,000

(i) Investment of Manish

Let the common ratio be x

2x = 8,00,000
x = 4,00,000

So,
Manish = 3x = 3 × 4,00,000
= Rs. 12,00,000

Manish invested Rs. 12,00,000.

(ii) New ratio when Rahul adds Rs. 4,00,000

Rahul’s new investment =

8,00,000 + 4,00,000 = 12,00,000

Manish’s investment = 12,00,000

New ratio = 12,00,000 : 12,00,000

=1:1

New ratio = 1 : 1

3. (a)

Required formula: ¿

3. (b)

Total tumblers bought = 100

Total cost price (CP) = Rs. 60,000

10 tumblers were broken.

Remaining tumblers = 100 – 10 = 90

Cost price per tumbler =

60,000 ÷ 100 = Rs. 600

(i)

If buying price is higher than selling price, it is called:

Loss
(ii) Selling price to get 20% profit

Total CP = Rs. 60,000

20% profit =
20% of 60,000 = 12,000

Total SP required =
60,000 + 12,000 = 72,000

Since only 90 tumblers are sold:

Selling price per tumbler =

72,000 ÷ 90 = Rs. 800

Each tumbler must be sold at Rs. 800

(iii) Is Prakash correct?

If shopkeeper sells 90 tumblers at Rs. 800 each:

Total SP =
90 × 800 = 72,000

Profit = SP-CP
72,000 – 60,000 = 12,000

Profit % =(profit/cp )*100

(12,000 / 60,000) × 100 = 20%

Yes, Prakash is correct because selling at Rs. 800 each gives exactly 20% profit on
total outlay.

12. c) Mode after correcting 25 to 30

Original mode: 42 (frequency 3).

New data after correction:

30, 30, 42, 40, 45, 50, 46, 42, 42, 40

Frequencies:

 30 → 2

 42 → 3

 40 → 2

 45 → 1

 50 → 1

 46 → 1

Highest frequency is still 3 for 42.

Mode remains 42

Reason: Even though frequency of 30 increases, 42 still appears most often (3

times), so no change in mode.

No, mode remains 42
