Assessment Criteria
Answer each question in your own words. Where a table is suggested, it usually
makes the answer clearer. Refer to the lesson PowerPoint and your own research.
Describe the requirements of current national and international
standards and conventions relating to engineering drawing
3.1
practice (e.g. BS8888:2013, BS5070-3:1988, BS EN 13622:2002
and ISO standards). (A table works well.)
Answer:
State the features of CAD drawings that must comply with the
standards (sheet sizes and layouts, first/third-angle projection,
line types, lettering and numbering, dimensioning, section
3.2 & 3.3
cross-hatching), and describe the use of standard
representations (welding, electrical, pneumatic/hydraulic and
mechanical symbols). (A table works well.)

Practical Tasks – Screenshot Evidence
Each task below covers more than one criterion – carry it out in SolidWorks and
insert a clear, labelled screenshot. The lecturer ticks the box once the evidence is
seen.
Produce a standards-compliant engineering drawing. Load and
set the relevant drawing parameters (sheet size, projection
method, line types, dimension and text styles), devise a layout
3.4 – 3.6
with the correct views, title block and borders, and apply the
CAD settings needed to comply with the standards. Insert the
two screenshots below.

and dimension styles)
