Project Work
Course Code: CSC315 Course Title: System Analysis and Design
Project Type: Group Project Group Size: Maximum 4 students
Full Marks: 20 Evaluation: Project Report + Viva Voce
You are required to analyze, design, and partially implement a real-world information system by
applying the concepts, methodologies, tools, and techniques learned in the course System Analysis
and Design (CSC315). The project must follow a structured system development approach and
clearly demonstrate all major phases of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Project Scope
Each group shall select ONE real-world system from the list below or propose an equivalent system with
prior approval from the course instructor:
1. Student Information Management System
2. Vehicle booking system
3. Library Management System
4. Hospital / Clinic Management System
5. Inventory Management System
6. Online Course Registration System
7. Restaurant Ordering System
8. Attendance Management System
9. Online Examination System
10. Cooperative / Microfinance Management System
11. Traffic management system
12. Examination Management System
13. Appointment Scheduling System
14. Pharmacy Management System
15. Medical Laboratory Management System
16. Inventory Management System
17. Sales and Billing System
18. Food Delivery Management System
19. Vehicle Registration System
20. Public Complaint Management System
21. Any other real-world system approved by the instructor/supervisor
Tasks to be Performed
Your project must include the following sections:
Part A: System Planning
1. Describe the background and problem statement of the selected system.
2. Identify system objectives and stakeholders.
3. Perform feasibility analysis covering:
o Economic feasibility
o Technical feasibility
o Operational feasibility
o Schedule feasibility
4. Perform cost–benefit analysis using any one technique:
o Net Present Value (NPV)
o Return on Investment (ROI)
o Break-Even Analysis
5. Prepare a project schedule using:
o Gantt Chart
o PERT Chart or Network Diagram
Part B: System Analysis
1. Identify and describe the requirements determination techniques used.
2. List functional and non-functional requirements of the system.
3. Develop process models including:
o Context Diagram
o Level-0 Data Flow Diagram
o At least one Level-1 DFD
o Level-2 DFD (optional)
4. Model system logic using any one:
o Decision Table
o Decision Tree
o Pseudocode
5. Develop a conceptual data model using an ER diagram including:
o Entities
o Attributes
o Primary keys
o Relationships and cardinality
Part C: System Design
1. Transform the ER diagram into relational tables.
2. Normalize relations up to Third Normal Form (3NF).
3. Design physical database tables with appropriate data types.
4. Design user interfaces including:
o At least three input forms
o At least two output reports
5. Describe interface design principles applied (validation, feedback, usability).
Part D: Implementation and Testing
1. Specify the tools and technologies used (programming language, DBMS, platform).
2. Implement at least three core functional modules of the system.
3. Perform testing:
o Unit testing
o Integration testing
4. Provide screenshots and sample outputs of the implemented system.
Part E: Documentation and Conclusion
1. Brief user documentation.
2. Limitations of the system.
