EYE PIECE | OCULAR LENS STAGE CONTROL KNOBS

- lens you look through - used to move the mechanical stage smoothly
- magnification: 10x, 15x, 20x - control left-right and forward-backward slide movement
- enlarges the image formed by the objective lens
GLASS SLIDES
DIOPTER ADJUSTMENT
- thin piece of glass where the specimen is mounted
- ring on the eyepiece - placed on the stage for viewing
- adjusts focus for differences between your eyes
APERTURE
- ensures both eyes see a sharp image
- opening in the stage
EYE PIECE TUBE
- lets light pass through the specimen
- connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses - works with the condenser and diaphragm
- keeps the optical path aligned for clear viewing
CONDENSER
HEAD
- focuses light onto the specimen
- upper housing - improves image brightness and clarity
- holds the eyepiece and tube
DIAPHRAGM
- supports the optical system of the microscope
- controls the amount of light reaching the specimen
NOSE PIECE
- adjusting it changes contrast and detail
- rotating turret
ILLUMINATOR | LIGHT SOURCE
- holds multiple objective lenses
- allows quickly switching b/w magnification - provides light for viewing the specimen
- modern microscopes often use LED or halogen bulbs
OBJECTIVE LENS
BRIGHTNESS ADJUSTMENT
- provides primary magnification
- clarity and detail depend on which lens is selected - regulates the intensity of the light source
o LP: 4x - helps balance brightness for different specimens
o MP: 10x
LIGHT SWITCH
o HP: 40x
- turns the microscope’s light source on or off
ARM | CARRYING HANDLE
- simple but essential for operation
- supports the head
COARSE ADJUSTMENT KNOB
- connects the head to the base
- used to safely carry the microscope - moves the stage up and down quickly
- used for rough focusing at low magnification
STAGE
FINE ADJUSTMENT KNOB
- flat platform
- specimen slide is placed - allows precise focusing with small movements
- has an opening to let light pass through - essential for high-power magnification

STAGE CLIP BASE

- holds the slide firmly in place - heavy bottom part

- prevents the specimen from shifting during observation - supports the microscope
- keeps the instrument stable during use
MECHANICAL STAGE

- allows precise movement of the slide in horizontal

directions
- helps position the specimen exactly under the lens
