Detailed Notes with 15-Mark Answers
Chapter 1: Methods of Research
Research is a systematic investigation to discover new knowledge and solve problems.

Quantitative Research: Uses numerical data and statistical analysis.

Qualitative Research: Focuses on meanings, experiences and observations.

Descriptive Research: Meaning, importance, steps, survey and correlational studies.

Experimental Research: Manipulation of variables, control groups, pre-test and post-test designs.

Historical Research: Study of past events using documents and records.

Case Study Method: In-depth study of an individual, institution or situation.

15-Mark Answer:
Explain the meaning, characteristics, importance, steps, merits and limitations of descriptive and
experimental research with suitable examples.
Chapter 2: Tools and Techniques of Data
Collection
Measurement Scales: Nominal, Ordinal, Interval and Ratio scales.

Achievement Tests: Meaning, purpose, construction and standardization.

Attitude Scales: Likert Scale construction and scoring procedure.

Questionnaire: Forms, principles, advantages and limitations.

Observation: Participant and non-participant observation.

Interview: Structured, semi-structured and unstructured interview.

applications.
Chapter 3: Validity and Reliability
Validity: Extent to which a tool measures what it intends to measure.
Types: Content, Construct, Concurrent and Predictive Validity.

Reliability: Consistency and stability of measurement.

Methods: Test-Retest, Split-Half, Odd-Even and Random Half Method.

Relationship: A test can be reliable without being valid, but validity requires reliability.
