Example Practical: BLASTn
Aim: To compare a nucleotide sequence with sequences in biological databases using
BLASTn.
Procedure:
1. Open the NCBI BLAST website.
2. Select BLASTn.
3. Paste the query DNA sequence in FASTA format.
4. Choose nucleotide database (nr/nt).
5. Click BLAST.
6. Analyze alignment results including E-value, identity and query coverage.
Result
The BLAST program identifies similar sequences present in the database and displays
alignments and statistical scores.
