How to Care for a Light Microscope
1. Carrying the Microscope
Carry the microscope with both hands.
Hold the arm (limb) with one hand and support the base with the other.
Keep it upright while moving.
Handle it gently to avoid damage.
2. Placing the Microscope
Place it on a flat, stable bench.
Keep it away from the edge of the table.
Ensure the bench is clean and dry.
Avoid placing it where it can be knocked over.
3. Cleaning the Microscope
(a) Cleaning the lenses
Clean the eyepiece and objective lenses using lens paper or a soft lens cloth.
Do not use rough cloth or fingers on the lenses.
Remove dust gently to avoid scratching the lenses.
(b) Cleaning other parts
Wipe the body with a soft, dry cloth.
Remove dust regularly.
Do not pour water or chemicals directly onto the microscope.
4. During Use
Start with the low-power objective lens.
Turn the coarse adjustment knob slowly.
Use the fine adjustment knob for sharp focusing.
Handle slides carefully to avoid breaking them.
5. After Use
Remove the slide from the stage.
Rotate the nosepiece back to the low-power objective.
Lower the body tube or stage.
Cover the microscope with a dust cover.
Store it in a clean, dry, and safe place.
6. General Precautions
Do not force the adjustment knobs.
Keep the microscope away from moisture and direct sunlight.
Avoid dropping or shaking the microscope.
Always use it according to the teacher's or laboratory instructions.
